Hi Guys,

I have a commando, dressed as a long range fastback.
Its got the seat without the "ears".
I want to convert it backk to a standard fastback.
Will the seat with the ears fit around the existing longrange tank?
The standard tank is fibreglass & im worried if I fit one, that I will have problems if Ethanol blend fuel accidently gets used.
The longrange tank is steel, which is why im thinking of retaining it.
Thanks Mark.

If the fiberglass tank you want to use is in great shape, never seen fuel before or little fuel from many years ago, I would suggest treating it with Caswells tank liner. The stuff works great and takes a week or so for the process from start to finish. Just be sure to seal up the petcock holes(I used bolts with the same pitch as the petcocks) and gas filler opening. You don't want the pretreatment getting on your paint job. If you plan on having the tank painted then seal it first just in case the painted finish gets distorted by accidental contact with acetone(which is used to clean the tank before treatment).

In answer to your original question, the seat with ears will not fit properly round the back end of the Long Range tank. If you can mount the LR tank without it rubbing against the frame and drumming like hell, then stick with it but they are not generally a good fit.
