Hi. I have my F1 running well for about 20 klms like a dream and then it begins to surge. So it feels like you are getting on and off the throttle. Back it off and it clears after a minute.
I am thinking an air lock in the fuel somewhere. Maybe not venting in the tank.
Does anyone know where the fuel system vents?
Any other ideas.? It also has been hard to start after a week or so without a bit of aerosol assistance ( a can of "start ya bastard") in the airfilters. The fuel pump is ticking when you turn the key.
Cheers mark.

Without knowing a thing about the F1 design, I'll say that when my commando had a weird "light switch" on/off bout of poor running, it turned out to be a cracked intake manifold, which when it heated up allowed air to leak into the intake. Even after I found the crack by spraying carb cleaner fluid around the intake, (never starting fluid) and having the bike stumble as a result, I couldn't see the crack in the casting. When I disassembled the intake manifold it fell apart into 2 pieces, so don't go by visual inspection. The carb cleaner test is best IMO.

Hello Mark,
Check your air intake manifolds there are small rubber bungs which I believe are there to set manifold pressures, these perish and split letting in extra air into the mixture and upsetting the mixture which result in bad running.

It does sound as if you are running weak Mark, so as DEN says check for leaks. Does the F1 have S.U. or Mikuni carbs?

If it persists give Graham a call at Startright, he should be able to advise.

It has Mikuni carbs. I will check.
Starter switch button now not working as well. Thanks guys for the info.

Maybe it's an electrical issue then?

That must be the only F1 in Oz?

I have to say I'm jealous. They are beautiful bikes.

No knowledge of F1’s here but any time I have had a bike surging it has been a clutch not quite holding its own.

Hi. I have booked a call in to him tomorrow. thanks mate

I now have found that my fuel pump ticks over at a rapid ticking noise but it does not slow down its ticking and eventually stop when the throttle is opened as the manual says it should. There is no variation in the ticking. I have a booked a call to Graham at Startright tomorrow when he returns to work.
