Exhaust pipes

haha good one - expecting a pig in the poke to fit all the variations that occur in Cdo assembly. What fits nice and close and clear on my Combat may not on your 850. My best suggestion is make sure of the return policy. The worse reports of past header make finish and fit, including my own, were from the most highly priced and prized heavy duty Victory pipes, so I can't recommend theirs going by my having to grind for header end and ring nut almost to destruction to fit when my factory headers fractured. Yet others this last decade are pleased to hi heavens by Victory so let us know what works for yours.

I believe Mick Hemmings sell the type with the end belled out, the type that needs collets. I and a friend tried those years ago & they split quite quickly, so I am a bit reluctant to use them again. The pipes I have at the moment are the same pipes with ends welded on from an old set of pipes, but are a bit shabby now & are strianing the rubber mounts.

They're 850 Mk3 pipes. I know pipes were not so easy to get a few years ago however Mick Hemmings sells the full range of Andover Norton parts, so it should only be a matter of ordering the correct items either from Mick or Andover Norton.

I used the Commando Specialties pipes and the fit was right on and after three years and 8,000 miles they have held up great.

Though I use our own exhaust pipes, and my son does on his Commando, after my experience of fitting our prototype head steady to various Commandos we own I give Hobot he has a point in what he says- on all bikes the head/frame top tube relation was different (hence we now sell the head steadies with an assortment of shims). I have yet to find a pre-Mk3 Commando where our pipes don't fit, but on Mk3s it can be too close on the l.h. side where the chaincase drain plug tends to be in the way.
We only sell the single downpipes, not the connected ones as the stubs tend not to line up and they then fracture at the joints. We currently do 06-3375/76 normal "Roadster" type, 06-1320/23 "S" type, 06-3240/99 "Interstate" (swanneck) type, and will shortly have early Commando 06-0620/21 level ones.
