I’ve always heard good things about Commando Specialties and their exhausts. Right now they aren’t returning emails or phone calls. I had emailed them a couple years ago about unbalanced Interstate pipes but never got around to it.

Who do you like to get your pipes from these days? I don’t need show quality, just rider quality but Interstate pipes aren’t as popular. Also US based would be a bonus.

I bought a complete Mk3 Interstate exhaust system from Andover (6000 miles ago) and it has been great.
I was replacing a worn out Roadster exhaust, so i needed brackets complete.
I forget what cost was, but satisfaction, quality, fit up, remain far after purchase.

Two years ago I bought a set of CS seamless peashooters. after a few hundred miles and then about a thousand miles to the NOCNZ rally, the inlet cuff broke off below the weld at the shoulder of the silencer. Because I was so far away, I wired it up best I could to keep it from falling off.

But since the header was vibrating loose at the end so much, the sidestand bolt wore a hole clean through the new Les Emery header. Which I also got from CS.

When I installed them, I set them all up loose and got them well aligned. At least I thought I had. There was no deformation on the rubbers.

Sigh.

YMMV, etc.

I made a couple of threaded stubs to fit into the head and use a couple of Yamaha sealing rings inside the head, where the stubs seat.. My 2 into 1 exhaust is held on by slip joints and springs. It is probably subjected to less destructive vibration. Some aircraft people bend and weld Hastalloy or Inconel to make aircraft exhausts. They are much lighter than steel.
Aerodromes are good places to get parts for custom built motorcycles. Some aircraft parts are past shelf-life, but are perfectly good. I like titanium bolts - my Seeley has them all over it. I had 8 engine bolts threaded down and shortened for $10. My top and bottom gearbox bolts are both titanium, but I have not had the axles made yet.

We all know the factory exhaust mounting is a horrible design. Rubber too soft and the rubber breaks. Rubber too hard and the exhaust breaks. Having it solidly mounted with threads at the head also doesn’t help. The only true solution is to mount the exhaust to the cradle.

My AN silencers and pipes, non-cross over, have 8k on them at least. No problems BUT
the angle of the pipes to silencers was less than perfect for my bike. Note I said 'my'.
When I set them up, took great care with spacers added to make sure the layout was as
neutral as I could get. Waisted the rubber mounts as per hobot. The rubbers die young but
I just keep an eye on them and replace as soon as they look clapped out.
Am I wrong in thinking Jim Comstock mounted his pipes to the frame and still wore out the
threads in the head in short order?I guess the vibratoes at the head must be different down at
the cradle attach point.

Is that what you are.going to do?

I have an old Toga that I have had since 89. Core rattled loose.and had to have it unzipped, taken out, rewelded. Same thing with mk3 in the mid 80s.

I also have an old Norton logo branded exhaust I got with the bike.in 89. No issues.

CS sold me the exhaust ISOs as well.

I don't recall @comnoz doing that but I could be wrong.

No, I'm just going to suffer with the stock design.

When your bike is in two halves which work independently, things become stupid. Does the early Norton Atlas have a problem with broken exhausts ?

Yes, because the whole damn thing fell apart from all the shaking. Including the rider's teeth.

No, Not to the same extent. Had a crack on the xhaust pipe flange at the head. Once.

@concours did a nice job with rigid cradle mounts.

Ludwig did post pics, but deleted them when he purged his posts a while back.

British Spares here in NZ show two in stock. Search 3130 on their site and they come up.

I don't order from them any longer for a various reasons - wrong part numbers, mismatching items, odd substitutions.

If you can't find any in NA, one option would be to have them shipped to me here in NZ first, and I could inspect them first before sending them on to you. PM me if you want to discuss.
