My 74 850 NOS with only 350 miles on it, has excessive oil in exhaust rocker and valve chamber and in exhaust on left side only. Plug wet with
oil and some white smoke on that side exhaust and muffler. Is this likely caused by a bad guide seal on the intake valve of this side or is it
more likely from bad rings on this side? The bike was in an accident after its first 300 miles (one or two days) and stored ever since . Upon starting up after 35 years, this excessive oiling is constant although probably only amounts to a couple of ounces per short trip or a liter/hr of running. Compression is good in this cylinder (160-180 psi) . Oil is clean. I will do head over again as the seals on the intake guides are suspect.
I just fitted a new exhaust valve and lapped it in . I will take off the barrels and check the rings too I guess.
Just wonder if anyone else has seen this problem on a fairly unused bike that runs well .
