Engine Surging - why?

OK,
I've got it running pretty nice right now. Theres just a little bit of black on the plugs.

35 pilot jet
240 main jet
needle clip on the top notch.

I see in my last post that I said I was going to try a 280, when I actually meant 240.
A typo on my part which is what I think prompted the smartass reply from splat.

The bike is running OK, so I think I'll leave it like it is and clean up the 34mm. and put it back on.
It has proven itself, I know it works good. I'll keep the 36mm. as a spare.

Since I have the norton is back in workable condition, I'm going to tune up my Honda Valkyrie, Thanks

Update on a old thread:

Surging was the issue and with constant messing with the Mikuni, I got it to what I thought was a manageable level and just left it be.

Well, In helping a guy get his project commando running, I had to rewire the entire ignition system. I made some new spark plug wires for
it and after reading the thread on silicon ht plug wires it got me to thinking.

So........ today I tried his new wires on my bike and Presto, the surge is completely gone!!!!!!!

I'm keeping these wires, I'll make another set for the project bike.

I guess it goes to show that 90% of carburetor problems really ARE electrical.
Just thought I'd share this experience.

indeed, over and over this gets proved!

Congratulations on finding the problem.

Gosh that's often how my own learning curve goes too. I tried to ride to work today on Trixie Combat and got a mile off then bad misfiring on LH jug with throttle so made me switch to car then have a blow out delay. I suspect Trixie's HT leads may finally of rubbed to short with extra engine lift up and vibes, then again who knows till I take her half apart again and again.

Today Wes told me his '71 would surge until he renewed the Amal main jet and needle, apparently beat up so getting on throttle rattled needle in jet for over juicing mixture.
