Does anybody use an Engine oil flushing additive, just prior to changeing the oil.?
I wasn't awear that such things exist, but was recently talking to a Car racer that swears by it.
He said that regular oil changes always produced clean oil from the motor, untill he used a flushing agent
which produced dirty black oil.
Admittedly I have, on occasions, flushed a new motor with clean oil but I doubt that it
does the same job of lifting residue.
Sounds like a good idea to me.
Any thoughts.

Oil thread = bad juju  Old engine having been run on old oil will have sludge in the crank sludge trap, in the oil tank. That flush may get it moving, not a good thing, it will go through your plain rod bearings. If the engine is old (meaning not recently rebuilt), I'd be inclined to not disturb that solid mass of sludge until tear down time.

That's a good point.
I thought (was lead to believe) that all that sludge became liquid again, and would be removed.?
My engine is relatively new at about 2000 miles, three oil changes since rebiuld.
Due for another one now.
This could become a "six of one and half a dozen of the others" thread.
All opinions respected.

I 2nd concours review. Just drain it hot or cold and save the sludge cleaning when its on the bench.

Sludge is SOLIDS, I've had to chisel it out of a Triumph crank before. When mixed with some oil, it resembles the stuff shown in TV commercials. If the engine was rebuilt, totally, crank out and cleaned, I would expect no sludge in there. Modern oils don't create it like days of yore. However, I mined a 1/2" layer off the bottom of my oil tank, easy to clean through the banjo hole. Leave the snake oils for snake oil salesmen. :P
