I just read that RE is putting together a 650 based flat tracker and also a Himalayan based racer also.Interesting.

I read that article. Says they are fielding an all women's team but only competing in 4 events. Atlanta, LA and I don't remember the other two. They will have bikes on display at other flat track events. Might go to the one at Texas Motor Speedway.

Johnny Lewis has also been signed to RE. I think that he used to race for Indian.

I think it a great idea to put their new bikes into competition , the flat track is very popular right now , it is great racing ....

Machine is built with in collaboration with Harris performance a company brought by Eicher Motors a few years back.
The same Lester and Steve Harris of Harris frames etc.

So they handle?
If my Himalayan is anything to go by yes, very well. I test rode a 650 a couple of weeks ago, but only in town so didn't get any chance to stretch it's legs. It seemed very precise though.

Thanks I am very tempted

A friend recently bought a 650 interceptor and, trading off in the canyons, I was able to put more than a few miles on it. It is a wonderful motorcycle. It is fast for its sub 50 horse because it handles and stops very well. Really fun and easy to ride fast.

The Harris influence is real; chassis is classic and competent

I can’t emphasize enough how impressed I am with it. Also, RE is collaborating with S&S - the V Twin people in Wisconsin - in developing a line of racing parts, including 750cc big bore kits as well as exhaust and CPU kits

A friend of mine has a RE 650 and absolutely loves it. He has 3 bikes, a Ducati Monster 821, a MV Augusta Turismo Veloce and the RE.

The Re is his go to bike. So much so he’s questioning the need for the others !

Only downside, minor I know...
I was having lunch at a biker pub in north Queensland last week and there were lots of bikes coming and going.
As a group of them left - some old and new Triumphs, a couple of airhead Beemers and a RE650,
Well, all sounded great, except for the RE - reminded me of a badly worn sewing machine.

Well that’s true, but also true of most new air cooled bikes in stock spec that we want / expect to sound nice.

He’s put some Peashooter esque straight through silencers on from Hitchcocks, a long time established Enfield specialist in the U.K. It sounds quite good.

Yep I've seen/heard them with those short pea shooters
Don't sound bad at all

Yes I am sure that is so , but i was thinking of back road functionality for pleasure . I have a couple of highish performance singles but they are not for old men in heavy traffic. I am rethinking what I want out of my bikes . One track the onetime reverred motocycle sport columnist used to winge about bikes he called 'grey porridge' but maybe that is what one actually needs in old age. The thought of say an Ariel 350 single barking its way around some of the steep Derbyshire hills is very appealing. What is not ,is the price you might pay for this stuff and this is where an Enfield might score
