Emgo kickstart

Yes I have although it was a few years ago. I would advise against it, The metallurgy is not so great. They seem soft and weak. Buy the real thing from Andover Norton & I personally like the longer MKIII kick starters for better leverage.

I have the RGM folding kick start it is very well made and the extra lenght thus extra leverage is handy for my 9:1 compression 850cc. I have an Alton Ekit that i use every time though but i got it as it doesn't keep catching your leg like the original does. You may want to look into these.

Hi Glen,

I would pony up the extra few dollars and avoid the EMGO kick start. I have a 750, and the kick started failed as it was soft metal. I ended up butchering my gearbox cover trying to remove the EMGO kick start, and I am now in the middle of prettying it up again.

Cheers,
Gatsby

Thanks all, that's good info. The kickstart is for a riding buddy who is restoring a 71 750. I bought a pair of eBay nice original footrests for him at $35 CDN instead of $500 new, so he has given me a shopping list. I spotted the new Emgo kicker but wondered about the quality. Now I know.

I have one. Never installed it, a laughably poor example of metalwork.

Glen they are rubbish and will chew out your spline after a short time, the best thing I did was to buy the T160 folding kick start lever for the Norton, it never comes loose, fold away neatly and of course gives better leverage when kicking, so tell your friend to save his money and get the best, well worth every cent in my book.

Anyone know whether the Wassell kick start lever sold by RGM is the same as or same poor quality as the Emgo?

I found him a good used original on EBay for $20. It has a few small specks of surface rust in one area, but those will polish out. Spline looks perfect.
