Electronics and components, what do I keep ?

I'm restoring a 72 750 Commando and I took her apart and starting from scratch. I bought a new wiring harness cause the old one was a mess and I'm wondering what components I still need. I'm switching to a Pazon system and bought a single coil setup from CNW so I obviously don't need the condenser pack and ballast resistor right?

I purchased some Lucas indicators so I got a flasher relay but this is where I get stuck. I'll need a warning light simulator and what else?

Correct.

You don't necessarily need the simulator/assimilator as it's only a basic device that switches the charge warning light bulb off when it senses alternator output has reached a certain level. There are other options such as the modern low voltage or battery status monitors.

Examples, as there are various types available.

You will need a voltage regulator (the Zener diode) and a rectifier or a modern reg/rec box.
Example.

3 or single phase, what's the difference ? Which one do I need?

The standard alternator is single-phase (Lucas RM21) so the stator should have two wires.

A three-phase alternator (RM24) will produce more power especially at lower revs but that would reqire new stator as well as a three-phase reg/rec.

Yes, that would be suitable (120W) although I think many of our members would probably suggest you buy the Podtronics reg/rec.

A 3 phase would be if I wanted to run more stuff ie: heated grips phone charger etc?
(Which I do not btw) lol

In that case you probably won't be needing the three-phase alternator then.

Do I need one with a capacitor ?

Note that;
"1) This regulator may not provide enough power when using an electronic ignition system and no battery"

In which case there may be no benefit in buying a unit with a capacitor as you intend to fit a Pazon electronic ignition.

Andre,
Make sure your Rotor is good and has not lost it's magnetism. It really depends on your driving style and area you drive. If you do mostly city driving with many stops and goes then this impacts the battery charge time as the charging system on a single phase will not make power to feed the battery until your RPM's pickup to around 3K. As L.A.B. mentioned the 3 phase makes power lower in the RPM range. Using a LED rear light and instrument cluster lights will help as the single phase is limited.
Cheers,
Thomas

That's true.

In another thread you ask about a cheap dual lead Lucas coil, as if you are considering it.
Now you state that you already have a cNw dual lead coil. I hate to be a cynic, but am feeling
like there is some gaming to these threads. Read the product directions like all of the rest of us mortals.
Clearly you know what you are doing.

He said he "bought" the cNw coil (as a result of information given in that other very recent thread) he didn't state that he "already has it".

It is on its way. I was looking at less expensive options but the CNW looks the best with that mounting bracket. I could have used the original coils, they tested fine but I figured I'd start fresh seeing as its a full restoration.
