Electronic speedo drive -kit installation.

Here is the speedo sensor kit I am building. I only have a few of them now but I have supplies ordered to do a batch in the next couple weeks. Jim

The way mines bouncing around I don't think it will be before it claps out again
Thats a pretty nifty gizmo all right! Be even better if the existing dial face could be retained, or maybe it can?

Good work

jim,
with all due respect for your considerable talents and skills, why would you want to do this?
the magnetic sensor kit that is available with the Smith's gauge works fine for me.
and no ugly speedo cable is needed - just a thin wire that is nearly invisible.

I'll take a guess here: because it looks stock, because it is a direct swap.

Because many people have a drive that has failed and don't want to buy a new one when they install an electronic gauge. The drives are notoriously unreliable -particularly if they are not lubed on a regular basis -then they make a greasy mess on the rear hub.
It is possible that they may last longer when they are just turning a sensor but i suspect they will still fail. Turning the original cable and speed head is not exactly a heavy load either.

The "cable" on my sensor can be routed to look like a real speedo cable for those wishing to look stock or it can be hidden and routed up the backbone tube with the rest of the wiring.

It was commissioned and designed to be used with the Smiths gauges and will be available through Smiths USA.

I do not know if it would work with the Autometer or other gauges -but there is a good possibility it would. Jim

Take a look at the new Smiths Gauges. The look very much like original. Jim

Brilliant, thinking outside the box gives you something different for electronic gauges.

The same unit will fit either left or right side.

I will also have housings available in case you don't have a worn out one. Jim

Whilst out and about this afternoon my speedo quit entirely.
