Electronic Smiths instruments

Good morning Kommando,
Are you referring to FE speedo pick up he got from CNW?
+ or - don't make any impact on speedo reading?
Thank you to clarify that point.
Sergio:)
I did not get the pick up from cNw. I only got the mounting hardware from them. But I believe they now also use Smiths instruments, hence my suggestion to give Matt a call.

Yes and yes, the 5V wires are isolated and the feed comes from the electronic speedo, as long as the speedo's 12V side of its electronic is correctly wired then the sensor does not care.

You will notice that for both a +ve and -ve install the black/white and the pink feed wires to the speedo sensor connect to the same red and white wires.

Now, for the benefit of you all, here is the end of the story:
The Norton friend I was talking about, he sent many e-mail to Andover. Navigating trough their web purchase pages is not obvious for upgraded parts as they do not appear on the illustrated parts pages.
So to make a long story short, Andover now provide a GPS module sender to feed their electronic Smiths speedometers.
Is it not beautiful???🤗
Thank you you all for your helpful feeds.☺️

The AN GPS unit is uncannily like the Aliexpress one I use but it should come recalibrated and with a correct ohm resistor on the sensor wires.

Agree AN upgraded parts are nearly impossible to find on their website unless you know what to look for which is a circular logic.

AN's website inhibits me from using it, though I do like the links to the parts diagram - I would also like to see a small description, including material used, approx' size etc.

A site I use for ordering spares for my old van includes a small corner window showing related items and alternatives, which is dead handy. For the main item, they often describe the quality and any common failings, and whether it is an upgrade. Fab'.

Matt at cNw does a cool stainless mount and replacement hub nut.

The mount takes a pick up and hub nut has magnets in it (I asked for one sans magnets so I could fit my own to it).

When I did this he only offered neg earth pick ups, but back then PUCA were still the U.K. dealers for Smiths and sold a lot of options for magnets and pick ups etc. But sadly Smiths don’t seem to offer such things anymore, which is a huge failure IMO.

I’d suggest an email to Matt as his hardware makes for a super clean and maintenance free set up. He may well offer pos earth pick ups etc now too?

Here’s mine:

Do you work in a hospital ?

Do you work in a hospital or a nuclear facility, and keep your bike in a clean-room which has filtered air ?

So… where are folk mounting these GPS modules?
A friend of mine has his speedo GPS module mounted just behind the seat, on top of the mudguard, so it can see the satellites . I mounted the GPS module for the Pro-oiler i have fitted to Mitzi in the same place. The metal seat pan and tank stops the Gps signal quite effectively. If our bikes were made of plastic (like modern machines) it would be easy to mount it out of the way. I did consider fitting the Gps module into the seat foam (above the metal seat pan) and i might still do that when Mitzi gets a refresh. A glass fibre seat pan would help here.

When i bought from Tum Kullen (RIP) he was offerling a magnetic pick up, the original speedo drive was gutted it went in there. Great system.
The pick-up was a development by the late Tom Kullen. Using the old speedo gearbox housing, all the mechanical internals are removed, so the housing will no longer rotate in case of internal defects, yet retain the original look. Is no one offering this elegant solution?

The sender hardware depicted by FE appears to have been discontinued by CNW.
