Electronic Ignition and Single Coil Upgrade

Hey y'all, i've got a quick question in regards to installation of the CNW single coil/ Boyer Electronic ignition upgrade. I recently purchased a 1973 850 Commando and I am unfamiliar with the ignition wiring. With the single coil installed, is the Transistor Box required, or is is inly intended to be used with the stock, dual coil configuration? Thanks for the help!

Yes, you would still need the Boyer box.

Does your single coil have separate low tension connections (small spade connector) for each of the two high tension outputs (plug wire)? If so you can wire it per the Boyer diagram. If not, you need more help here.

See you're in Citrus Heights... are you a member of the Northern California Norton Owners Club? Club rides with several Commandos can be fun.

Yes! With the Dyna coil, I could hook it either way. One side to the ground and one from the EI trigger. Didn't matter what side had what wire.

Thank you all for the help! This is a little confusing for a first timer!

The single coil from CNW only has one positive, one negative, and the plugs for the spark plug leads. From what i've read and understand, I need to eliminate the jumper that was intended to connect the two 6V coils in the stock configuration.

Once i get this puppy up and running, I definitely look forward to joining up and going on some rides with the club.

Thank you all again.
