Friend has an Electrex ignition that does not use a battery. Runs fine once started, but can take many kicks. Using NGK BPR7 EIX plugs. New carbs. Looks like Combat head (narrow fins at head/barrel junction) and non-combat cam. Compression feels high. Anyone else running this ignition? How is to start?

Hi, i put the Electrexworld ignition-alternator-kit [stk102d] on a Triumph T100ss to get rid off the distributor and to have a good new electric system.

starts after 1. or 2. kick.....doesn`t matter if the moped is cold or warm.

Does your friend run their recommended capacitor instead of the battery?

They say the alternator output is only 65watts, yet only 20% is available for lighting? I think that front lamp alone draws more than that.

I have one on my P11 (whole other discussion), and it kicks over with no battery, LED's, and push blinkers, YOU have to use the 5K plug wires they recommend, use the coil they recommend and rectifier. Make sure your carbs are on tightly no leaks, if cold, get in two choke kicks then turn on , kick. Be sure to set the rotor on the crank shaft accurately.

Starting has nothing at all to do with whether it has a battery or one of their capacitors.

The ignition side is powered by it’s own coil on the alternator stator plate and is a separate circuit entirely to the rest of the bike electrics.

Because it is a CDI ignition, it can take one or two good strong kicks to get enough charge to spark fully.

Plus, from a troubleshooting standpoint, when you take the plug out to check for a spark, you won’t see it because the spark is so small and seemingly weak (that caught me out big time, although I must confess they do mention it in the instructions)
That doesn’t mean they’re bad though - fitted one on a Dommie Cafe Racer, and it’s a great little unit.

Shout if you get stuck.

@Douglass Harroun one thing I have just noticed - you say your friend is running NGK BPR7 EIX plugs.

The Electrex World kit comes with resistor type plug caps.
So technically, you should not be running resistor type plugs like the NGK BPR7 EIX plugs he’s using.
