I used to buy and sell on Ebay about 10 years ago quite a bit, it seems to have lost something.....I used to buy a lot of BMW airhead bits and now there is bugger all and the shipping is eye watering.
Recenlty found that German Ebay is good for BMW ( obviously) and Guzzi and shipping is ok. EG shipping on a pair of heads to New Zealand 50 Euros. Bing translator is your fwend.
Norton stuff I just get from the UK, they use Royal Mail...good enough for the Queen...good enought for me.

Marc,
look at price of a new one from RGM, or Andover . it's really not expensive , why bother to buy second hand a cracked one when new are available , delivered to your door in a few adys for less that those craby eBay prices.

Beng,
Having lived in the US and other countries I can tell you that it's the same all over the world : politics tell us that services will be better and cheaper when provided by private entreprise rather that state company when we have everyday evidence of the contrary .

On Ebay USA there are professional sellers, at least 5, selling many parts disassembled Commando motorcycles.
How do they find so many whole bikes??.
Why not the whole sell?
Ciao.
Piero

Because 80% of the british bikes were sold in the US, because US people tend to buy new toys very often so there are many bikes over the country with less milles that in Europe.
Selling a bike in pieces allows to sell is at higher price : 131$ just for the rear lens can you imagine how much for parts which are expensive to buy new or even cannot be bought new. And by doing so you have no issue with titles, papers... . It's a pity but do not forget those people wants to make money , not help keeping bikes on the road.

This in Italy it doesn't happen because you can re-register all motorcycles and cars that year more than 25 years of age because they are considered historical, just claiming to be owners and that are not stolen.

I like this rule for vintage bikes!
So many older motorcycles on the USA Craigslist are offered with only a bill of sale.
My local Missouri Dept of Motor Vehicles warn not to buy anything without a title!
Other states in the US may have different rules that apply to rebuilt vintage vehicles.

Yes it is.
But is not possible to import the whole bikes from USA with only the bill of sale, it needs the title, USA Custom do not permit to export.
Without the title and only with the bill of sale you must dismount the bike, no wheels, engine and transmission fitted on the frame!!
Is not so easy.
Remember, Ialian Custom wants the 21% of VAT pls 8% of tax on the purchase price + shipping costs (about 1.000 $).
Better to buy in Europe, is too easy.
Ciao.

Not a bad find there bwolfie :)

I can only guess that the guy selling the tail lamp assy hasn't realized that the front half of the fairing has been snapped off. I think the 6 out of 10, on the condition scale is being a bit optimistic. Most of the ones I've seen have suffered that problem, I was lucky to get one at a good price and in one piece.

On the whole I haven't found the pricing of USPS to be too bad, considering how far these bits are having to travel. What sticks in my craw is customs wanting what's effectively a tribute payment (thieving b*st*rds!). who ever heard of such a stupid idea of charging duty and tax on second hand parts!?

S

About taxes and duties , just think about that : you have a friend in the US , he buy a brand new tail lens from Andover, no VAT will be charged to him. He then ship it back to you. It's a now second hand part , is it fair to apply VAT a this part (on the declared value) or will you call it stupid ?

Probably cost you more in postage, than in duties. lol. :P

But seriously, what does it matter in items of such relative small value? Especially on parts that in every sense are not new.

I don't want to get into a taxation debate...For obvious reasons

I was having a poke through Ebay last week, found another tail light assembly up for grabs. Would you believe it...I forgot to put a bid on it @ the w/e.

Anyway...I dropped by there first thing today to see what it went for, as the bid ended Sunday evening...Turns out even if I'd placed a 'sensible' bid I'd be slapped silly, they'd have walked straight over me to get to the thing, lol.

$311.99!!?? BWAHAHAHAHA.

The one I bought for the S type cost me about $70-$80, is in better condition.

What is the matter with these folk? Barking..Is an expression that springs to mind.

I never could understand why people make numerous bids when an auction has days to go.

Speaking of the seller in the auction,he has a lot of good parts and is a top notch restorer in his own right.
Here is a auction I won of his a week or so back for $68. ($66,25)

Here it is after the brass wire brush fettle,0000 steel wool,a scrub with a stiff brush and car wash then a lashing of silicone spray.
Good to deal with honest eBay sellers.
