Hi all,
I have an early Commando with points at rear of timing case. I need to know if there is a thrust washer and/or anything else between the points drive sprocket and the points housing.
Can anyone tell me or point me to a diagram?

Thanks,
Ed

Funny we were just talking about that.
See P11 section: Re: distributor points chain tension

Hi dynodave,
I wonder if it is just an Atlas era phenomenon regarding the shim on my p11? The three that you state that you have. Is the casting boss protruding beyond the gear face and do you have a slot for oil. I am not "right up" on the early engines as you are.
thanks for sharing.
Cheers,
Thomas

I know that one is dist body definitely 68 atlas 125xxx..from my dunstall atlas. The other two distributors I believe to be from my 2 commando 20M3 1968 127xxx and 128xxx. All look about the same. .022- .025" end play ... about the same as cam end play spec
My gear face is flat and thrusts on the aluminum of the dist body. It touches a little as you can see a bit of polishing but it is slight.
The end of the dist body is flat and inline with the needle bearing body/cage.

"Is the casting boss protruding beyond the gear face and do you have a slot for oil. "

Not sure what you mean by your statement above.
The hardened spacer for the engine intermediate gear (not distributor) is there for all twin chain motors.
totally different Intermediate gear for single chain motor has spacer/washer built in. Steel parts no casting??
Am I missing something? Are you answering a question that he did not ask?
Reread the original OP question. apples and oranges

Hey dd
I think I misread the OP thrust washer query. I was thinking it was a reference to the intermediate gear. That is where my head was wrapped around. My fault for not asking for more specifics.
my apologies
Cheers,
Thomas

Thank you Thomas and Dave for your replies.

Thomas, as Dave pointed out I was asking about the distributor drive sprocket and distributor housing.

Dave, thank you for the info regarding axial play. That is very helpful.
