Looking closely at the picture of the cable, I do not see the usual barrel at the handlebar lever end.

Suspicious how well that ball at the cable end would hold in place. Looks the same size as the gearbox end?

If you look at the second picture, it shows the barrel, that will fall off in the field when you are trying to adjust it on the road.

I can't seem to find cables suitable for the earlier type thread in adjusters. The outer cable always has that step-down shown in this picture, which is a sloppy fit in the older units. I usually end up having to modify them myself.

Boy, Dave, I think the thread in adjusters at the GB were even pre-Commando and Dominator, I don't know?

Dave, I was talking about at the handlebar end. The newer adjusters have a screw thread for the female part but the male part, which is also threaded, has two flats milled in them that corresponds with an internal shape in the alloy lever-post, it simply slides in and out of this lever post. These have a different sized cable bore than the ones on our earlier bikes where the male part is threaded into the lever post and the female 'adjuster' simply acts as a lock-nut.

My handle bar end has the threaded adjuster and locknut that threads into the lever assembly. The cable sheath just slides into the end of the adjuster with a ferrule on the end, and the cable slides into the slots and has a round end on it that also just slides into the barrel which slips into the lever from the bottom. But my lever sets are chromed, not alloy. I thought the chrome ones were standard on the 69 'S', 06-0690 and 06-0691?

Looking in the second picture of the cables, it says it is factory part 06-0919, which is what is listed in my parts book and it looks just like my old one.

I'm still looking around for a Venhill one too.

Thanks for the heads up - just bought 2. Needed one last week as both clutch and throttle went within a week of each other...

If you look at the cable in the E-bay posting you will see that the handlebar end of the cable sheath has a step-down on the end. This is too small to fit the chromed adjusters on our steel levers and makes the cable a sloppy fit in the end of the adjuster, this is generally what I find on new cables and I have to de-solder the ferule and fit a new metal end to the sheath.

Dave,
We must have different setups because it looks just like my old cable, except not broken. The stepped end goes into the top of my gearbox, and the end with just the ball and ferrule on it goes into the adjuster and barrel for the lever. The other end of my shown cable just had a ferrule on the end of the sheath, just like the one on ebay.

Maybe I'm confused, I get that way. Again I feel like I'm beating a dead horse. Maybe I need to see your clutch lever setup.

No Dave you are correct, I couldn't see the handlebar end clearly in the picture and thought it was the clutch end. The cable in the photo looks appropriate for your's and my bikes. If we ever met for a drink and a chat we could conceivable require a translator and several days!

In person is always easier than chat groups. If you ever get to the DC area let me know. I doubt if I can get my wife over the date line, and I too don't have any plans there. But my friend Dave Moy may be in HK at some point, he was born there. Too many Daves.
