I am a little confused on this.

Aren't we all !
Nortons could have done a (much) better job of recording all of this sort of stuff,
owners usually have to figure it out by trial and error.

Not entirely sure about Atlas boxes, but an earlier dommie box has the clutch cable entering further back,
where the Commando one enters almost in front of the inspection cover.

Ooo up, just remembered/noted this earlier box is Matchless, not Norton.
All bets may be off.
Anyone know how different they are.

Still sounds like yours is Commando should be good to go.

The cover I have has the cable hole between the inspection cover and the top screw hole that holds the cover on. I think I may have the correct cover.

There is 6mm diiference in mainshaft length between the early box and the commando one. If you use the commando clutch without changing the mainshaft the clutch would be out of line with the engine sprocket. Put a straight edge across the clutch sprocket and see if it lines up. I used the early box however only had the single row chain and the early clutch. I had a few old single row engine sprockets - they are all different from one another. It was quite adequate for racing. I now have a TTI box and got around the alignment problem by making a JAWA speedway type sprocket carrier which allows the engine sprocket to float sideways.
