I usually ride with ear plugs as I would like to be able to hear the young ‘uns complaining when I am blocking their way!
Anyhow, have been using foam earsoft for ages - cheap, good reduction in noise without blocking road sound too much and easy to put in/out. I wanted something a bit more substantial for when riding the Norton - co workers have commented ‘that bike is bloody loud!’ - so I invested in some auritech plugs. Tried them on my commute this week and can’t say they are significantly better but man they are fiddly. Got to work and couldn’t get the buggers out of my ear - had to use tweezers to get them out! Apparently this is a suggested technique for those of us with sausage fingers.
So what do you use.

I prefer Skull Screws. They don't cause me any irritation and are easy for shaky hands & fingers to manipulate. Don't block noise levels so much as to cause me concern over not hearing approaching danger or odd mechanical sounds.
Can be found on fleabay.

I got a container of 64 prs I think at Canadian Tire a few years ago .... they are the foam type you squeeze down and let enlarge in your ear .... 32dbs ... found in chain saw section .... work great , but I have to be careful not to shove in too far ... not sure of brand .... feels odd now to ride without them ....

Thanks,
The Alpine Motosafe are similar to the auritech in design and function but the addition of the little tool for insertion/removal shades it!

I have a couple of sets of custom made ones. A little pricey right off the bat but I've had them for many years and they seem to hold up well. I keep one set in the house and one set in the barn. Use them with chainsaws, grinders, Mowers, race tracks and rock Concerts. If you want to bump the price up some more you can get them with speakers for those that want to bullshit with their riding buddies, but that's a little too high tech for me. Not to mention my riding buddy is usually my motorbike.

Custom made ones are the way to go. Usually theres a couple of vendors doing it at the major bike shows. Get it done early and they're usually ready by the time you leave. Double check how much material is on the outside as it may interfere with your helmet. I get them to shave them down a lot and they're still super effective

I've tried a few types before settling on a pair of Stanley branded safety plugs from local Canadian Tire store, putting me back a mere $3.50. Have since come to learn they are commonly used at gun ranges.

They have a lanyard which keeps them going astray. Very easy to place properly so they stay put when putting helmet on and easy to remove. Effectively kill wind whistle from my noisey helmet yet engine note not completely lost.

My Norton makes a hearty noise, but my Duc has a Termi exhaust + ECU with the DB killers removed and it plain snarls.

I have been using the 3M -32db foam ones in a bulk pak for a while now, and me thinks is time to upgrade to some custom made ones.

I can only agree about the hearty noise which my well fitting Davida helmet dampens very well but I too have acquired suitable plugs since I notice my hearing beginning to fail.
Strangly I found them in a sports shop but they are very good and easy to remove.

Speaking of hearing protection I took a cruise today with a friend and his wife. He on his roadking and she on her new sporty. It was quite nice and a beautiful day for it. A real pleasure to cruise and not have to stretch my throttle cables to keep up, and of course my skull plugs were tucked in my shirt pocket where they do the most good.

I had an industrial safety company make me a set in 1990. I went with the model that allowed a small bit of noise to be heard. They took molds of my individual ears and the fit is perfect. I have used these both at work and on the road. A great product with a perfect fit and they have worked with all of the different helmets that I've used over the years. As speirmoor mentioned MC shows usually have a vendor. When I worked for BMW we had a vendor at all of our dealer events. That said, I've achieved about the same noise cancelling results with the inexpensive foam disposable units. They're just a bit more of a hassle to install. When riding my Harley touring bike (It still has the quiet stock exhaust) and wearing my Arai, I don't even bother with the ear plugs as it snuffs out the right amount of noise.
