Dunlop rims...original sort...

Thinking about getting my famous tooth remover (see my blog) slowly on the road again...after 33 years in cardboard boxes...maybe time. Need replacement rims...original type. What number/model do I need, 72 disc brake 750, drum rear. Found a couple but the front is supposedly for a drum brake wheel...is it the same as for the disc type? Any of you with the replacement rims....have a couple of good originals you want to get rid of? Any comments or suggestions?

The original rims would have both been 19 inch WM2-40 spoke, but each had different part numbers because of the holes. If a wheel rim has had the nipple holes drilled to suit a drum hub then it's not really suitable to fit it to a disc hub as the spoke angles and sometimes the spoke pattern will be different as each difference in hub diameter and width affects the rim hole drilling angles/positions.

Quality alloy, chrome or stainless steel replacement rims (and spokes) are available from various UK companies like CWC: http://www.central-wheel.co.uk/
or Devon Rim Co.: http://www.devonrimcompany.com/# and they should be able to supply them drilled to the specifications that you require (for a proper job to be done with chromed rims they are normally drilled first then plated).

Or you may want to consider changing the wheel sizes (rear to 18 inch WM3 to give a better tyre choice?).

Thanks for the info...my front rim on the other bike has a number...MC275 I think so that must be the part number I am looking for, with the correct drillings pattern perhaps. Those firms have beautiful rims, no doubt, but completely out of my price range.....after a couple of years no work, and now only a few months back into it....there just isn't much left over to put into such as those fancy rims. Sort of on a leash for awhile...but I could pop for used rims that still had fairly good chrome...that I could do. There will be somone out there that has had enough buckos to pop for the alloy rims, and has the old, good ones still in the garage. Have to be patient. I will keep the eyes open. Those are the only really BIG things missing from that bike....the originals were really toasted...front one smashed up into the front motor mount and both had been flattened. Ditches will do that.... :wink:
