Kenny Dreer, for one. He used Baker aftermarket HD gearboxes (6-speed, IIRC) on some of his early prototype bikes.

Well before Dreer the first knowledgeable Norton racer I meet up with was late Duncan Campbell, in Joplin MO, who drag raced Nitrto fed natural inspired and super charged Nortons. He told me about 100 hp level AMC spilled its guts on the tract so he adapted HD tranny. TC related similar threshold to abandon AMC for Harley, a closer blood brother to Norton than may be comfortable. I'd like to know what HD gear box would fit the easiest. 4 sp should be plenty for my desire to short shift drag race.

Hmmm, I'm not sure if he used the Baker. At least that's not how he told the story on camera.

Thanks to all on the Harley gearbox info, had not thought of that being a possible option until I saw this bike

Well, that's what he told me some years back. It's possible he found a different supplier later. I don't know if he ever used the complete Baker gearbox. He had a custom shell made to take what looks like the Baker 6-speed gearset. The pictures below show the gearabox on one of the prototypes.

Yes, they probably used the Baker internals during the dev phase, but not the external case. As you've shown, it was a custom case for the gearbox.

Good to point that out for anyone thinking of trying to use the "stock" Baker case.

Those pics looks like an "early" prototype, which used a VR880-style engine as opposed to the later "custom" engine for the 952.

Thanks for the pictures.

price has been dropped to 25k. Nice deal for someone considering the builder owns a massively respected motorcycle company.
