Donington Norton Day 2009

spoke to you about your bike when you were waiting to go on the track. It looks well and by the look of your tacho, it wasn't slipping it's clutch like mine did on the track.
Good fun though and i'll have my roadster in better nick next time!
The fairing you have, is it Norvil item?
I remember the chat but not your bike. What colour is it? Yes/No my clutch is a good un, belt drive and all. Did take a couple of years to get right once I'd replaced the Dommie actuating arm with a Commando part. Only problem is the expansion of the drum when it gets hot, which gives lots of play at the lever.
The fairing is from Mick H. It's not from the same mould as the Norvil and does have a pronounced droop to the sides which kind of spoils the lines but it does the job. The main bracket is a one-off from Mick and takes both Veglia clocks (mine) and Smiths. It sits the fairing a lot higher than Norvils and did take a lot of juggling to get the bars and brake pipe to clear everything. But it does give more lock than the Norvil setup though the main headlight mount only lasted 600 miles before it fractured. The side mounts are also poor, regularly needing rewelding and need beefing up.
Sorry guys I thought it was a big dissapointment! Nil organisation or facilities and no "mass Norton" run or display which to me was a major drop off! I'm afraid a bunch of guys wobbling round Donnington didn't do it for me
On Gino's comments I see what he's saying but for me the 300 mile day ride was worth it. If I'd gone for the weekend I probably would have expected more. These events are what you make of them really. He's right about wobbling around though!! We're not all born racers.......

Hi Keith
I enjoyed your video, especially watching the rev counter! The bike looks good & is obviously working well.
Must admit I was out there with the racers & enjoyed my wobbly round. It is one of they tracks to ride. Hopefully I will get my Scitsu to show exactly what revs I am doing!
On the Norton day side. I thought for the amount of effort put into the advertising it was not a big turn out. It has to be the cheapest track time ever! Beezumph dwafes it but it has taken years to get to the awsome display that this event is. (plenty of Nortons out there) Hopefully the club will do it again as all my members enjoyed it. What they did not enjoy was building a ladder to get out of the campsite on Saturday evening.
Missed the track walk
all the best Chris

Eh?

I was on the camp site that we all had to vacate on the sunday morning, and there was a very deep ditch right at the back which a hapless Dommie rider from Sudbury (an estate agent but a nice guy) managed to fall into in the dead of night. He had trouble getting out of it he told us over breakfast!
I will have to get to the bsumph thingy as well.

Hi
At most meetings on the Friday or Saturday evenings we tend to walk the track. Sometimes with a beer in hand. It is one of those little pleasures looking at the lines, noting the elevation change. At Donnington you would not believe the way the track climbs & drops. Television makes Craners look flatter & the run past the old viaduct to maclans is unbelievable steep. The tarmac has gouges out of it that you can put your toes in. On a nice evening its a great way to start the weekend.
Cadwell (Beezumph) is another one of those circuits!
Chris
