Donald Trump has become the third US president in history to be impeached by the House of Representatives, setting up a trial in the Senate that will decide whether he remains in office.

Donald Trump is no lawyer I don’t know if he is guilty of the things they are accusing him of but, Oh dear! This is not looking good, if he gets removed from office he will be the 3 rd. US president to have been removed in my lifetime- I hope it doesn’t happened yet again!

I got an idea...this thread should be in the pub...about 4 minutes ago.
If one wants to kick the hornets nest of political discussion, fine, but how about somewhere other than a Norton Commando Motorcycle (Classic) forum.
There is a plethora of sites where one can go to express their political views, please leave this spot for stuff like carb settings, bushings and compression.

It really doesn't matter. The Republicans go after the Democrats and the Democrats go after the Republicans.

When it comes to politicians it makes no difference.

Republicans are like a shit sandwich...... and Democrats are like a shit sandwich with mustard.

Either one is great, if you like shit sandwiches....

I think the ones who lost the election way back are still sore losers and will do anything to regain power but really who cares and if anything it could well and truly back fire on them at the next electon, here in Aussie land we only lose our leader from back room deals and back stabbing from within their own party, I have lost count but think its 6 PMs in 10 years, instead of looking after the country its a game to Pollies and their behaviour is worst than school yard bullies.
Yes you can vote them out but who do you vote in as they are all the same bad apples and look at US pollies if you aren't rich or have loads of money you go nowhere and look at the age of some of your pollies, they look like they are ready to kick the bucket.

IIRC none were removed - Impeachment is the trial process - Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton were acquitted and Nixon resigned

For the benefit of our Foreign friends ......

Impeachment is an indictment. The next step is a trial. That happens in the US Senate.

The trial may result in an acquital, or quilt. If guilty, the person impeached is removed from office. If acquitted, it is like it never happened, except the person impeached has a stain upon his record.

As things stand at this moment, the Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, is saying she might not send the indictment to the Senate. Think about the message that sends the world ..... It says ..... "We did this to make a statement, but we are not really serious about it!"

For the benefit of our Foreign friends:

Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton, were impeached, and acquitted. Nixon was never impeached, but resigned, before he surely would have been impeached.

I am not a lawyer, but it seems to me, that an impeachment, being an indictment, should specify a charge. Curiously, the articles of impeachment against Trump, contain no charges, merely assertions.

"The President...shall have Power to grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offences against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment."

This is one of the significant material impacts of this impeachment, IMHO.

It is perhaps why Nixon resigned, and could then be pardoned by Ford.

This may open the doors for prosecution once Tump is out of office. Watch this space.

This impeachment, since no crime is charged, comes close to a “no confidence” vote in a parliamentary government.

The U.S., of course, is not parliamentary and our Presidents, unlike Prime Ministers, are changed by the Electoral College with each delegate or Elector thereto instructed by their respective States. The States, each sovereign under the Constitution as originally written, decide how to nominate and instruct their Electors. All of the States each have decided to do so by popular voting.

The closest thing we have to a no-confidence vote is impeachment but an impeachment differs; it does not proceed on simple political disapproval. Rather, it requires some kind of bad act, some kind of crime, such as . . .”treason, bribery, or other high crime or misdemeanor. “

That is why the two Articles of Impeachment adopted by the House of Representatives, which fail to recite any crime, are so controversial. They actually are extraconstitutional, outside the bounds of the Constitution.

The Constitution requires a finding by the trier of fact - the Senate - of “treason bribery or other high crimes and misdemeanors” and the House of Representatives’ Articles only charge “Abuse of Power” and “Obstruction of Congress.“

The first article was abuse of power enlisting a foreign government to impair a US election. The second article was obstruction of Congress in that investigation. These are both impeachable and consequently Trump is impeached.

Censorship is good for the economy. There are three main groups which indulge in censorship - fascists, communists and the religious - all authoritarian. Which one are you from ? When common people start to get their heads straight, authoritarian control freaks will have real problems.
Personally, I find discussing politics with motorcyclists very rewarding. They look at the world very differently to most other people. Many people do not have a genuine interest in living, other than the need to procreate.

Motorcycles keep you young at heart, and that is important, most people past the age of 30 are already dead in the head. I have never regretted my passion for motorcycles, it has kept me alive and kicking. These days, politically I have an axe to grind. I remember what Australia had and I know what we have now. Motorcycling was part of that. Post WW2, we could have made literally anything as far as interesting vehicles are concerned. Now we have almost zero capability - all due to luddite conservative politics. I am not prepared to just lay down and die without a squeak.

In the Australian federal parliament, there is only one scientist and there are no engineers. Di Natale is a medical doctor. These are the guys who determine our future. And what is Trump, other than just another bullshit artist ?

There are quite a few guys on this forum, whose opinions I love hearing - the kid from Brisbane with the Joe Hunt magneto, Fast Eddie, Bernhard, Eljihara to name just a few. Their blood is worth bottling because they are the real deal. Of course anyone who points out that 'the emperor has no clothes' must be an idiot ?
