Ugly? Sorry, but what planet do you live on?

I saw these things on the factory tour and had to stop myself licking it, it was that gorgeous, and the noise.....

how wide is that fueltank?
how wide is that head?
is that numberplateholder still attached or is it about to fall off?

i did look at other pics of domiracers and they were VERY nice , but they were also a few decades older.this one is puke-ugly,no matter from what agle

they all sold out very quickly?how many did or will you ever see on the road, ?these are bought by investers , not people who ride theirs
seems a bit like those hailwood reps 2 ducati made and could not be ridden unless you had an extra joint somewhere between your elbow and fingers , those sold out quickly as well. But at least they were half nice to look at.
this thing is .............................

ps any well ridden 2valver can blow these clones(after all they are nt real nortons)away so nuf said

I can agree with some of your points, acquired taste maybe. But it is a Norton as much as any international or big 4. I don't own a 961, but there is a lot of guys full of praise for them even after some bad shit and I think I wouldn't chuck one out my garage for a honda.

The regular 961s are a thing of beauty thanks to Kenny Deer, whose styling Stuart Garner wisely stayed with. Don't know who penned the mods to turn a 961 into a Domiracer, but something went very wrong with the back end.
It got hit very hard with the ugly stick. Maybe a magic wand could turn it back into a 961?
Looking at the photo some more, it is the short upturned at rear seat the messes up the lines. Put the 961 seat and cowl on there and all would be fine. I don't understand where the value is tho? Still the same power plant and performance?

The Domi number plate holder is like that because of the rule in Europe that the number plate must extend past the rear wheel. The supplied plate holder comes off on 2 bolts, because every Domi Ive seen has a small plate under the hump or on the swingarm.

Ive only ever seen one on the road and I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder etc, but I think its gorgeous... Im too big for it though.

I love my 961, Ive got a garage full of bikes which instantly became redundant the first time I rode my 961 on 1st Sept and it gets an unbelievable amount of attention wherever I take it. They aint the fastest, but if I wanted that id have a rice burner, but ive never had a classic Norton come past me....

It's all personal, but I really like the domiracer and have seen several at the Factory in the flesh. I wouldn't be able to ride one due to the position on the bike though. And as people have said, most will not be ridden much or in some cases, at all. :(

I think that's similar to all 961s, I know most of the owners on this forum ride their 961s, but I get the feeling that we are a minority, purely through the fact that I ride or drive 35000 miles a year and Ive seen 2 on the road of the 600 hundred odd made, plus 1 Domiracer.

My advice is, if you don't like them, don't buy one and dont follow this forum... There are thousands of bikes out there that will better suit. There seems to be a constant Norton bashing thread on this forum which I don't understand. Im aware that they have had issues, but have you ever bought an Italian bike? You know nothing if you think Norton are bad....

I love my 961 and would buy another tomorrow. My dealer is great and the bike is a dream. I cant say much more than that.

Well I am one of those who has been a fan of the 952/961 concept right from first peek at the prototype. I have always liked the stying of the 961 and the idea of a much modernized version of the Commando power plant, which is what Deer set out to do. It is great to see the bikes now being produced, sold and ridden after defending against the naysayers for years. It was expected that there would be some teething problems once the bikes were in regular use.

Just not a fan of the Domiracer appearance, as the 961 is near perfection already, changing it only messes it up.
Hopefully I can voice this opinion without being told to stay off this forum?

I like the aggressive look of the Domiracer. If it were me designing it, I would have done everything Simon did except tune the hell out of that 961 engine to the max. We all know that engine could push out a lot more HP. I like the unique look of the Domiracer. Sure it looks like a Commando, sort of, but like someone else said, we are a small group of people who are in the know. I've yet to bump into a person in real life when I'm on my 961 who knew all about it. Only a handful of people even heard Norton came back. PS - I would drive it every nice day to work and on the weekends, just like my 961 SE.

I think the Domiracer is nasty (in a good way) little beast. I'd ride that with the rattiest looking old leather I could find and just terrorize the neighborhood. (in a good way?)
Since there are only 2 or three 961s in NY, I get that a lot. Most think its a custom vintage.

Im the same, old brown Claymore wax jacket, open face helmet, goggles, jeans and boots.... it feels like sacrilege to put a full face helmet on or a Kevlar jacket. Im not alone I think as there is now a massive industry for 'vintage' looking motorcycle clothing... It must be cool, as my 21 year old daughter wants a 70's JPS Norton replica leather jacket for Christmas.

Ive been feeling my age for 20 years.... lol

I 'came of age' in the 80s, so in motorcycling terms it was RD350LC's, green bomber jackets, jeans and white trainers lol. I then gravitated to wax jackets, mainly cos Im too big for leathers. Claymore armored wax jackets are made to measure and cost less than most leather jackets. So after 20 years of looking like I just got off a 1952 Ariel or something, I find my gear is trendy and people are asking me where the jacket came from! In another 25 years Ill be trendy again.....

i got 5 2valve ducatis in my garage (not all mine but looked after by me,belts shimming etc)and rode laverdas, round cc ducatis and guzzi lemans plus raced them a bit in between, so yes i know what italians are made off.But that is not the point, and i do not want to insult any-one ,but fact is that these bikes (domiracers) are highly overestimated and built and sold just for the wankers-investers (the cool ones in newly bought vintage leathers included). And those who howl with the wolves saying how geourgeous they are ,are just helping them to have an even bigger hard-on(wich is not bad in itself)

ps i do think that the dreer-commandos were a work of art and build by a genuine norton-lover.But first time i saw the new commandos i was appalled by the bulk they carried.wich is why i love the real commandos ,and 2valve ducs ,laverda twins and guzzi lemans etc

I mentioned this in another thread, but the issue with SEs in the US, as explained to me by a knowledgeable dealer, is that South Bay monopolized the SEs while they were the U.S. distributor in the early days. So, after receiving CARB approval, if Norton were to deliver SEs before all other models, all US deliveries would go to South Bay. Apparently, Norton decided that it would be better to spread the deliveries around among the various dealers.

If you're interested, I hear that Munroe Motors has an unspoken for red SF available in San Francisco. Not trying to talk you out of your SE which I know you want, but offering an alternative and trying to help.

That does seem to make some sense, as to SE delivery problems. I also think there is silver monoposto SF, and a Black Sport on the floor at Gold Coast, at least there was this last week

Trouble is, Im a bigger guy, ex pro rugby player, 270 pounds and most bikes apart from big trailies are too small for me, hence the reason I like the size of the commando. Before the 961 I had Guzzi Grisos, as they are big roadsters with wide bars. My guzzi T3 is set up the same, with big trailie bars too, and obviously the Road King is a barge anyway. Id love to ride smaller fast lightweight sports bikes, but I look silly on them, even if I could get my knees high enough!
