Hello, I am trying to understand if there are any different lengths of the alloy fork sliders fitted to Roadholder Forks on Featherbed framed Dominators.

It has always been my understanding that these are all the same length but have recently been told this is not the case. I know there was a change in the thread spec during the early 1970's when Norton changed to Unified threads.

If there are differences what are the different overall lengths ?

thanks .... Richard

It is my understanding that the alloy fork sliders are all about the same length.
Its the steel fork tubes, and spring lengths, and damper lengths that make all the difference.

Having said that, there are at least 5 or 6 different versions of alloy fork sliders though. ?
Early long roadholders, short roadholders, Inters, Manxes, Dommies and Commandos all have their own slightly different versions.

What are you trying to achieve here, or is this just exploring....

Hi, I have two from different sources. Both suppose to be Short Roadholder to suit slimline featherbed frame.

But .... the mudguard fixing studs are in different positions.

I have come across the different lengths of internals (Norton, AMC, Enfield etc. etc.) but not slider variations for the later Dominators

Have you looked at what threads are in each ?
Any chance of a pic of them side-by-side.

Nortons shuffled and altered bits around all over the place, if you see them all laid out beside each other.
Building them up from stray bits is a real hit-n-miss business.
Everything will (almost) fit everything else - as long as all the bits are matched to each other...
And the fork yokes went from 7" centres to 7 & 3/8" centres, as detailed here before.
This gives some new versions of bits too.
