Hi everyone this is just to introduce myself as a new member and explain my new project, I have just bought this basket case with bottom end trans and clutch still in the frame this bike has a lot of original tinware in solid condition that I will probably be dispensing with to fund a cafe racer build, I may even go to the dark side and fit a pre unit triumph 650 so if anyone needs any of this or has what I am looking for please get in touch

I'd be interested in any of the original Norton Dominator bits that you may decide to part with. Please drop me a PM with what you have.
Thanks
Jeff

Build a cafe racer out of the Dommie, keep it all Norton, but its your build, just use what you have, to many Tritons around as it is these days, I just think the all Norton cafe racers look better in my opinion.

Hi again everyone i have now got it home and it is not a 99 it is a 1960 88 deluxe with a lot of solid rear tinwork and matching engine and frame numbers but also a basket case 90% complete, anyway this has put me in a quandry as i am loathe to break up a matching number machine but still want a featherbed triton so i will post again with pics etc under the proper heading of what it is apologies everyone for misleading you Chris

If you want a featherbed Triton, I have two of them for sale.

Keep the Norton intact and sell it to someone who will appreciate it for what it is.

i would much rather do some sort of deal with mine finances are not that great at the moment

Re: domi 99 now domi 88 deluxe

Well no luck with pics sorry but a computer geek i am not pics available through email please message me with address

You need to post your pics to a free photo site such as photobucket,
and then post them here using the links supplied,
with the
domi 99
to make them display here.

There is a photo tutorial at the top of the main Commando page here, but thats it in a nutshell.

Below is a photobucket link to pics PLEASE CLICK ON PIC i can't believe i managed it anyway opinions welcomed as i am loathe to part out this matching number 95% complete bike to make a triton i would sooner have a deal with a triton needing tlc the tinwork as you can see is scruffy natural patina i believe traders call it but it is for the most part solid if there is anything you wish to know please ask I am in the UK Chris

Aha, you have a Dommie 99 Deluxe, or parts thereof, Nortons answer to Triumphs bathtub models = rocking horse poo.
Highly collectible by some, and impossible to find, intact.
If you advertise it in the press, or even just the panels, folks will beat a path to your door. (Maybe... !)
If you were a bit closer, I'd come over for a look, I'd love to have one of those.

We'd be curious to know if the frame has special attachment points for the Deluxe panels to attach to ?
They were held on by dzus clips ??

An ad on the NOC site should find it a new home, although getting a swap will take longer, possibly much longer.

You could keep all that you have and still build a Triton out of it, set it up for a Triumph motor if thats the way you want to go, rebuild the Norton motor and put it away, when you want a change back to a orginal Norton wouldn't be to hard to change it back with a motor swap, just a throught, but be a pitty to not do it up the way it is, you could make a great looking cafe racer with what you got and put the parts you don't use under a bench or somewhere else, having a matching number bike is very rare these days and in the future be worth a lot more money.

That is correct and in an ideal world would be my choice but small matters like funds, storage, my age, do not lean me in that direction but as i said if anyone has a triton in need of TLC and would prefer a pure breed here it is, I have run the reg no through DVLA and it is on their register so should I apply for V5 or leave it for new owner ? what makes the better proposition one less keeper or paperwork ready to go, BTW it is a 1960 dominator 88 deluxe

Hi again the rear mudguard section was bolted in situ loosely the rest is clips also the chainguard is not present

Better amend the title of the thread then !
The red and dove grey panels would suggest it has some 99 Deluxe heritage somewhere though ?
It may have been bolted, but weren't the original mounting points dzus type fasteners ?

Indeedy, just hang on to the bits you have, and Triton it as required.
If you don't chop off the brackets, it can always be resurrected sometime later on.
The phrase "all the original bits are still on the shelf" comes to mind.
That way you don't have to hang about waiting for a suitable swap to come along.

This is a good find. As Rohan said not everyones cup of tea and for that reason many of the panels were thrown away in the past.

But now sought after by a select few and very hard to find.

Somewhere in the world someone will be hunting for those pieces so you can play your part by keeping them in good shape. :)

The early 88/99 DL bikes could be had in a range of colours ,so you do find orriginal red 99's but I have never seen a blue 88 ,I have a red 99DL. I suspect Norton got a bit fed up with playing colours and standardised the colours after 1960 sometime. 99's were then mostly blue/dove.The rear enclosure does have slots for the terry type clip down seat so was probably 1960 model (made in 1959). The rear enclosure was also reinforced with a loop of steel the same size as front mudguard stays. The left side panel with the tickler slot is very hard to find for some reason. The frame had sturdy welded brackets with Dzus wire clips riveted in .Anyone needing info on the DL feel free to ask me. If you have a 650 DL then its likely to be the rarest norton ever made.

has anyone got a triton project they want to swap as if this goes on much longer it will become my triton

This is in france, advertised with the local Norton Club ?
They seem very active - on the web anyway...

As said earlier, if you don't remove the clips off the frame or throw away the Deluxe bits,
you could triton this one and not discount going back to a Deluxe later on.
Impress your friends, turn up on 2 different bikes on alternating weekends !
