Hi,
I have made a rear disc from 316 stainless, 230mm dia, 6mm thick & need .010" (0.25mm) a side grinding off. If I still worked in engineering I'd stick it on a ring grinder & do it myself. As this is no longer the case does anyone know of a company or individual who could do this for a reasonable price? I did try Preston Grinding but they wanted £50 minimum charge!!
Cheers,
Martyn.

   I guess they figured if this ol'geyser can afford a lump of S/Steel that big for a brake disc, then he can afford to pay anything!!!

In todays climate, I suppose anything less would be 'mates rates' as far as I'm aware it seems that all engineering firms are very busy, and the small jobs like these would be in the way of the companies paying £185.00 /Hr for larger contracts and I found out recently they can't dictate timescale either paying that price - it was either take it or leave it!. In the UK there is one big shortage of engineers.
There was an engineering company that was very good at motorcycle rebores near merseyside, I will try and get the name of them, maybe they can do it.

The big lump of stainless was laser profiled from 6mm plate by AK Stainless in Walton Summit for a more than reasonable £20. They are nice blokes to deal with. Sadly in Britain today there are few small engineering shops left. I tried Bambers but he wasn't interested. Sometimes I wish I lived in Germany. They seem to value engineers & as a result have lots of them left!!
Rant Rant etc.
Martyn.

Bill Bannister likes sticking to engines - he knows what he's good at, and one of the few guys left who will dress his grinding wheels to correct Norton specs.

Would the place near Liverpool be Grampian Motors? They used to be the place to go to years ago, but I haven't dealt with them in recent history.
