Don Pender is a long-time member of the Norton Community here on Access Norton. I have recently sought Dons’ assistance in finding a way that our devoted community can give directly to the most affected areas through people we trust. Don is as we speak, working with two local motorcycle clubs, predominantly ex-pat riders who reside in these vastly devastated areas.

I have worked in community care, disaster relief and a wide range of crisis environments over the past 20 years and truly understand how effective direct community action can be. For myself, it is not a role to be filled or a job to do; it is a way of life that has been with me since a very young age. Help your fellow man when they are down so to speak.

In discussion with Don, he has highlighted to me exactly how as a group of people, bound by a common love of the motorcycle, are working together to realise immediate outcomes for those who need it most.
All donations will be sent directly by you to Don. Don will then take the donations directly to the collection centre and it will be recorded in the collection book. The groups are assembling food packs to the value of about $10 each. They will be delivered personally by the group to the needy, no government officials or middlemen involved.

$10 will provide for one food parcel for one family
$100 will assist 10 families.

As you all will understand, this is but the tip of the iceberg. There is much more than food that will be needed but it is a start. I have no reticence whatsoever in believing Don and the group he is working with will prioritise the immediate needs of their community effectively and appropriately.

If at all you feel that you could contribute to resourcing these two groups who share our passions, then please feel free to forward a donation via PAYPAL and messages of encouragement to the following:

Count me in - I've already contacted Don.
Those folks need all the help they can get.

When I saw this pic, I thought holey junk, that could be me on a different day.
It was the motorcycle in the middle of that that really brought that home.
Imagine if no-one came to help...

(I think this pic is a long way from Don, but if that is what those folks have been through
= being homeless, waterless, foodless, no power, no dry place to sleep...)

A very desperate situation. Is there any way that you could post a PayPal link for donations Don? ( or did I miss it?)

I look a cupla times and could only find "Dons" Email address??? no paypal link??

Yep that's what you need.
1. Log in to your paypal account
2. Select send money to family or a friend (minimizes the fees)
3. Enter the email address as madass140@gmail.com
4. enter an amount
5. Add a message of inspiration!!
6. Hit go (send/complete)

I will research the paypal link option

Powerful words Rohan = "Imagine if no-one came to help..."
Indeed.
It prompted me to send something anyway.

Brothers,
This is a fantastic start. To those who have contributed thus far, thank you.
For those of you who may be considering a contribution, know this, a small amount of money goes a very long way in South East Asia. It may seem that a few dollars is insignificant, but it is not. Some families, sad as it is, can survive on but a few dollars a day.
I spent time with a young man in Cambodia a couple of years back with my family. He disclosed that his $70/month wage was in fact very generous.

As little as $5 could in fact be the difference for a family.

Also, know that your $5 is a real $5 that will end up as 5 usable $. No NGO running costs, no govt trimming.
It = $5 on the ground in the devastated area.

In kind
Dave Ross

A great initiative. I'm in.

Yes, sending money directly to volunteers on the ground, rather than to a global charity, means all of it will be used there.

Well done, Don and Dave. I am sure you will keep us posted.

Dave

A big thank you to: Michael Yingling,Les (Timewarp), Trevor (Lindy), Colin (Static moves), Nigel (Fast Eddie), Gary Ryder, David Hickie. I'm overwhelmed by your generosity.
the organizers have been very busy , doing deals with food companies here buying bulk at discount prices, they are not buying from supermarkets etc. they are fronting the manufacturers head on and getting a good response. They are organizing a bunch of volunteers for tomorrow to assemble food packs here in Cebu City, my girlfriend is one of them. Most of the media focuses on the town of Tacloban on Leyte island but there are other smaller islands just as devastated. About an hour and a half drive north from here to the top of Cebu island is a couple of smaller islands that have been devastated. we have a boat organised to take our (yours) aid directly from here Cebu City directly to
one of these islands , Bantayan Island, and with the help of some locals there the food packs will bedistributed to the needy. we are doing everything to make sure the aid is not compromised in any way.
I'm not sure when they plan to deliver but I expect it will be in the next few days, of course pictures will be taken and I will get some up as soon as possible.
Yes Dave is right a family here lives on just $1 or $2 a day so your generous donations will go a long way, Thank you all
Don

Funds sent. Thanks for posting this. My buddy on Cycle world forum has family and friends there. He owns a home there, but it's in the mountains so he's hoping everything is ok. He actually has a Sporty there and rides with a group over there. My hopes and prayers are with all the families and relief teams.
BTW, hope you don't mind, but I posted this link over in my thread there.
