Checking things on the head of my 1967 Atlas, and wondered which direction the flats on rocker arms go? Toward the center of head or away from the center....

'67 should have the high pressure oil feed with plain, not scrolled, rocker shafts in which case the flats should face outwards.

The shafts in this head have the scroll and oil lines feed from the top of the head..I may have some shafts that you described...They would be smooth shafts with just a flat on them? Would the smooth ones you describe be better? The guy I bought this bike from had a parts engine and another bike..1966 Atlas...So I am finding a mismatch of parts in the engine....I want to do the right thing with the engine so it will be dependable for every day riding...

The smooth shaft goes with the six start oil pump and the pressure fed rockers. The scrolled shaft rockers are for the oilfeed from the return line and will over oil a pressure feed head. conversely the plain shafts will not allow enough oil on a return feed head.

My rockers receive from timing side so it must be pressure fed..

Would any 750 guides, valves and springs work with the 1967 head, or are they different from the 750 commando parts?

For 1966 you should have the six start oil pump worm and gear, are you using the green Norton twins workshop manual from 1966 on :?:

Saying you have a mismatch of parts-nobody knows what you have got :!:

The Bottom End andTiming Side Are 1967..The PO used an earlier spigotted cylinder and head...I have fitted new pistons and rings to the 1967 cylinder...I am thinking about redoing the correct, original 1967 head...Wanting to go back to what was fitted originally...
