Baxters, after spending weeks in discussion about performance improvements, in the early hours of this morning sent me an email advising they were not comfortable with doing any engine performance mods at all, due reliability concerns. Stock standard or forget using us. Reliability is my concern, not theirs and Jim Comstock doesn't suggest anything that is not sound. I've got a lot of time for Jim, he's been more than helpful, freely offering his knowledge and advice. I was shocked but quickly moved on the matter. Sent back an email advising I was taking the project out of their hands. I guess Randy has too much work to care. I'm not interested in his business practices. You just move on.

So to cut it short, I've decided to go all Australian, except for Jim's involvement. I've decided to put all the hot goodies (which is hardly any) into my red MkIII. My local bike shop are more than confident they can do the work required. Just another engine to us Phil they said, and they are right. So that's my new plan. Jenny has never liked green bikes anyway, gotta keep the one you love happy. So,

I'm happy.
Jen's happy.
Mary's happy - just wants a fast ride. Can't see two feet ahead, let alone colours.
Local bike shop are very happy.
Baxter's are happy - but I can't understand why!!

Japo Crapo jockeys will shit themselves big time up against a RED HOT Commando sitting at the lights!
So everyone is happy.

Life is all about making everyone happy.
Not that I give a shit about making people happy!
Not what I'm trained to do, nor want to achieve.
Quite the opposite in fact!

Phil

Two bikes the same is a little odd unless you are Noah.

You can spend the cash on a set of Captain Obvious's Dads fork inserts and some decent shocks.
Rumour has it they are going to make a special Mk111 Forum for the three of you.

So what happen's to the Green one? Is it gone completely? Red bikes are faster anyway :-)

Is it really possible to get a motor or gearbox from an old British bike rebuilt properly by a bike shop these days ? Many years ago, a guy of about 20 years of age offered to build my Triumph race motor for me - I felt like strangling him.

Why not just get Baxters to build you a rolling chassis... Get the chassis shipped to Lord Comstock... Beg him to build you a killer motor and throw it into the chassis... then shipped to you?!?

Simple!

I have a feeling Phil may have burned his bridge.
Dealer beware!

Phil

More like piss themselves. :)

Well actually they/me wouldn't, but that's because we don't seem to be as blinkered as you are.

I know you are just having a laugh of course.

true, and Oh, maybe Baxters read this forum?

The TOURQUE and Rideability of a 1007 should outwit most riceburners in hill country , except phycos .
seeing the big jap sh*ts on the old pacific highway gets the lust for the catapult acceleration cranked over
of a worked 750 COMMANDO . Most are point & squirt and thwarted / buzzing indeterminately in the
sweeping bends . The Olde Dunlops well over got the rubber area up , or is that over & sticking .
Quite an astounding traction when you can slam on the anchors .

maybe theyre nervous of the gendarme and the 60 K restriction on the old 110 / open road HIGHWAY .
Of course if it was safge for a EH on crossplys , 60 kph for a modern shitbox seems reasonable .

this one thinks He's fast . :? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k4YfFwP6g8w

NO decisive ' OVER ' into the turns , or ' UP ' at the exits for max W.F.O. ,
and any bigger than the 600 riceburners a bit of a handfull in half of it , so
is reduced to trepidation banked over and gas it on the straights .
Were a decent Nortons on the Gas when the Roads Clear Ahead .

Not the size of the dog in the fight but the fight in the dog .
the throttleability / tourgue / rideability of a ' tooned ' ( in all
respects - as in Dialed In ) Pommy Twin ( not a Matchless or
other more mundane types ) Commando is still less buzzy than
a whinga 650 and doesnt need a step ladder like a TRX / Thewper tenare .
or power steering .

Not the same Time, one red, one green.

But yeah, I guess you're right.
Anyway, the love affair is now over.

Rumour has it Jerry is going to put a joining and monthly fee on non MkIII owners.
Something like $200 a month I believe.
Jerry and I are wanting enter in the "he with the most wins" competition.
With the most "real" Commandos that is.

The project start time was only weeks away den, that's what surprised me so much to get the email from Baxter's. The core bike was to be built into a BRG Fastback, so I guess it will just become a stock Roadster. Americans love Roadsters, a lot of folk do.

I think I've made the right decision dumping the two bike idea. I don't want to look like I'm too happy or lucky here in Mittagong. Riding around on a red Commando with a beautiful lady on the back already has the guys seething. Lucky I'm such a nice guy or I could get stoned. Jen says don't ever ride with your helmet off, hurled stones hurt, more than smashing plates!
