I loved watching it back in the day. Petty, Pearson, Allison, Jarret, Bonnet, & many others.
Attended Dover Delaware a few times. The inaugural race at New Hampshire International Speedway (formerly Bryar Motorsports Park) in Loudon, and then every July then later the added September race as well.
My hero Earnhart getting killed, marked the end of my repeat tickets.
I still watch some of the races.
The whole progression to non-stock everything (now wheel design) takes away.

Yeah, I still watch the road races, "roval", Daytona with infield layout, and Talladega. Circles are too boring with these cars.

NASCAR is doing more road courses because ovals are boring

Clash at the Colosseum. Why???
I looked in on that.
What horrific fail. Like a cheesy car chase scene, in a low-buck "B" movie.
The children caved in to hosting an event in LA. Vegas is within driving distance.
Also, the whole shift to try and present stock car racing like a frickin stick & ball game. Fail.
Now calling it "playoffs"
It sickens me.
Was the old standard "points chase" too hard to understand?

When they went from 22 to 11 gallons.... to increase the crashing.
Strategy went with it

In the late 60's and early 70's I was a NASCAR fan and involved for a short while in local dirt track racing. As time went by it became more and more expensive and I became more involved with motorcycles, very little interest in auto racing in the last 25 or 30 years.
NASCAR has become a multi billion dollar business thinly disguised as a sport... IMO.

I would add, NASCAR enjoyed EXPLOSIVE growth in the 90's, early 00's. It has imploded.
Even before the Great Plague of '19 struck, it was evaporating.
I remember for decades tickets were sold out years in advance.
Now they are advertising for all the races.... unsold seats abound.
Children raised on video games.... only a small percentage go on to give rats arse about cars, motorbikes, etc....😢

If you want to get racing on the big oval exciting again get rid of the restrictor plates.
I know they can't as it would turn into a giant demolition derby, but hey! those can be fun!

Nascar...watching grass grow....twiddling your thumbs.....all the same.
I enjoyed my limited racing, at a local level. 😎🏁
You know how you invuluntary stomp the passenger floorboards hard enough to bust the spot welds when you ride in my cars/truck?😱

Some of that came from there....😈🤡🤣

They imposed restrictor plates on our Magic Mile after the tragic death of Adam Petty. I had paid $80 a chair, and got to see 400hp.
My local bullring shows us 400+hp for $20.
THAT is when I made the choice. NO MORE will I buy 8 seats, July & Sept.
It was a chickenshit knee-jerk response to a tragic accident.

I understand/accept on the superspeedways....
But not the little tracks.

Nascar is nothing more than spec racing anymore. They stopped letting the factories and teams build what they wanted-race/win on Sunday-sell on Monday-and have made cookie cutter cars for all. A long way from the whiskey runner cars of old. Figure 8 demolition derby is more fun that that.

I was disappointed when they banned Fords cammer. The winged cars versus the Torinos was a great era, with Mario, Cale, Leroy…then came restrictor plates and speed limits for pit stops. Then serious commercialism. Haven’t watch for decades.

I'll give ya that. But it was fun watchin Toyletodor try to make a pushrod V8 hum.

You mean this engine aka "Cammer"?

People ended up using the Cammer in their dragsters. Maynard Troyer had one in his modified sportsman in the early 70’s.

Those photos were taken in the shed of an old friend who does engine building and machinist work for me .
He has 6 complete Cammers on rolling stands in their own climate controlled safe room.
And he will not sell any of them. I tried. I wanted to put one in a Cobra replica. I ended up using a 427 side oiler (developed to compete at Daytona) in place of the OHC 427.
