Bought a 71 Commando 750 with no numbers on engine cases not a problem but want accurately date engine anything i can look for so at least I can order parts correctly.
 
You should be be at least able to bracket it's date with the information on this link.

Or maybe post a picture as there will be clues regarding the year of manufacture by the type of breather and sump plug it has.

Ah ok breather is on top of front left case and sump plug is a big un.
 
If the points are in the timing cover and tacho on the front of the crankcase I reckon you've got a 1970 or 71 engine.
