Damn bike won't start!

hi again b stone, im not sure what you mean when you say the head was re conditioned to 60 thou over, do you mean the barrels, if so you should have removed the followers cos im sure they wont have,they are probably full of swarf

Well pulled the head back off and first thing I noticed was that the push rods are gouged on the side (3 of them) and one is gouged right below the ball top :x Not sure if this was caused when I put the head on, if they were incorrectly seated, or when I took it off just now.

I checked the followers and interestingly the left side seems to move up and down ok however the right outer will only fully recess with a strong thumb push.

Looks like I am back where I started and will need new push rods to boot.
 
Thought I would throw a f/u....Bike is back together after tearing the jugs off and re-assembling. It starts quick enough although I will need to tune her up a bit as I can't remember what I last did to the carbs when I messed with them and right now it will only idle for about 20-30 seconds without a trhottle burp.

Turns out I had been careless and not seated the pushrods correctly. Quick lesson from the local Brit bike guy and I now know the importance of a bit of grease in the cup to get it to seat and somewhat stick during assembly. I must have checked and re-checked they were seating in the rockers about 12 time before I bolted it all down.

Woudl appreciate if you guy shave any pointers/things to watch for with a post top end rebuild.

Geeze,

It's been years since I did it but I think I used to put the push rods up in the head and hold them with a rubber band, then cut it. The grease is a big help to hold a cupped rod in while you set it up on the rockers, I guess you know that now.
That's all I recall.
