G'day All, Ive always liked the Norton in gold on seats so set about and purchased a few different inks etc and tried the results on vinyl. The best product I came up with was WAPROO $10 shoe colour change. its suitable for leather and worked brilliantly on vinyl as its a liquid vinyl itself. As its purpose designed for the rigors of foot wear, is very tough resisting scuffing etc I found. On some of the test done I also found the brush supplied left small but just noticeable brush marks so decided to try it through a spray gun, airbrush first but tip to small and blocked quickly! Found out since that this product is available in spray pack!
I had 4 stencils made up to my chosen size (at a cost of $15), not too big and bold!

Bravo! I put the subject line in the text so will show up when I'm ready to search it up and DIY my seats too.

Well done Foxy. I guess the proof is in the pudding so let us know how durable it is.
Im pretty confident in its durability at this stage as I tried to scratch trial samples with a screw driver and it impressed me!
So what are you building there?
Slowly but surely (4 years so far  ) its my version of a Cafe Racer consisting of 64 slimline featherbed with 74 920 cc Commando, 90 deg offset lightened crank, cam to suit, Jims rod and piston kit, larger inlet valves, ported 33.5 mm, matched CNC milled Maney manifolds, 35 mm Keihin flatslides. Tank Shop tanks and quite a few other bits and pieces I've learned about here on the forum!

Looking good, Nice and crisp lines. Hopefully it is durable.
I would have to be my own biggest critic and I must say that the photos dont do it justice! The color and lines are extremely crisp with the grain of the vinyl still visable. The product was thinned with MEK as different thinners didnt mix. Obviously this doesnt apply to spray paks.

Edit; The product is WAPROO that I used, mispelt in first post!

I wish I could do that to my corbin seat but there's a damn stitching like down the middle!

Where did you buy this stencils. ?

I bought these from a local sign printer (100 kms away. thats OZ). They had the logo on their data base then supplied the vinyl stencil already to go with the letters weeded (picked out) with transfer tape in place.

It probably would still work if you were patient and didnt flood the color on so it wouldnt bleed under the stitching and crease.
A few light misty applications would work but theres no room for error as it wont come off. The vinyl stencil I used had a very good sticky back and stopped bleeding giving crisp edges.

I long time ago I used gold fabric paint to refresh a faded seat logo. By using a brush you would have to worry about a seam as much.

I got some gold acrylic paint rom the hobby store 3 years ago for my 2007 Bonneville seat logo and painted it on with a small brush. These bikes came with the impression of the name but no colour so there was an outline to follow and the result was great
I have been contemplating how to do the same on my Norton seat as there is no outline so will use your method.
The advise I got at the time was to use a water based paint (acrylic) as it bends and stretches and has stood the test of time and aged nicely although the bike has never been left out in the weather

Good luck with your build

I had my sign shop make stencils too and used some metallic gold sign painters 1-Shot brand enamel paint. Brushed it on as the grain of the cover hides any marks. Same kind the pin stripe guys use. My sign guy has made tank & side panels stencils too so you can paint the lettering on instead of using the vinyl decals. Nice job Foxy ! :!:

Thanks Tim,, I hope to paint the traditional red and black stripes on the ally tank, will have to be super etched first. Having clipon dents makes it a bit more of a challenge to get the lines right.

I thought of using water based acrylic but didnt think it would stand the test but there you go. If using a brush I would try a foam one (or something similar that the paint wouldnt effect, distort) to try and eliminate brush marks, or am I being too fussy?
To add to the way I applied and thinned my color, I used MEK (methyl ethyl ketones something like that) its not readly available but Im thinking Acetone would do the same job. Yep I will try that out and get back to you with the results. Below is a photo again but with the seat cleaned up.

I finally got around to trying Acetone to thin the shoe color change product I used, it worked fine with no adverse reaction to the vinyl tested upon. I also edited an in focus picture in my previous post, looks much better!
I see in my travels that you can buy spray pack interior seat color change products aswell, not sure if you can get gold but could be worth looking into?
