Cylinder liners question.

Hi, I have had new liners fitted in the cylinders of my 850 and have noticed that the outer surface of the liners are visible externally between the fins. Is it possible that oil can leak through at these points ? Is there a fix for this to prevent leakage if that is the case? Thanks in anticipation.

Shouldn't leak at all. Will be a press fit at the top & bottom & nothing should get through.

Years ago I had occasional problems with oil weeping at the front of the cylinders where the liners were exposed in 920 cc conversions. I solved it with the use of Locktite 290 penetrating/wicking threadlocker. It is intended for lockeng assembled fasteners, sealing pin-holes in welds, small porosities in castings, etc., and wicks its way into very small apertures. I've also used it to seal similar open areas in Rotax cylinders with big bore sleeves.

One thing that happens is that when the cylinders are bored is that it leaves a fine continous thread for the oil to work it's way up, honing before fitting the liners can help, to late now, oil between the liner and cylinder will form carbon creating a heat transfer barrier,Kens advice on the self wicking sealer is the best you can hope for.
