I took a ride around the Hawke's bay , to puketapu, Dartmoor rd , appley rd , puketitiri rd and then Glen Gary rd , to the main highway and back through Eskdale , I only stopped once on Dartmoor rd for a pic outside someones house , but even 3 months later it is so busy with trucks and diggers , it looks as if they just logged out a forestry block, pretty bad , Eskdale was worse with silt everywhere and tree slash . So many bridges gone .

We export most of our logs to China and we contend with the by product being slash....that has as you mentioned taken out bridges and community housing....I reckon the council there should have evacuated the residents that lived on those flood plains ...

I think it came up so fast , and just wasn't expected in so many areas , no one had seen anything like it , last big one 1938 someone said , also Hawke's bay seems to have most storms pass by , it was pretty severe.

The Cyclone was tracking originally towards the east cape and beyond and then the weather guys thought it would head back out to sea....obviously the weather guys were wrong...neithertheless it was a sad day for our country and our people...perspective when the govt bailed $$$ out the media companies...based on 20 000 people that are employed in the broadcasting industry....divided out thats $4000.00 each....what the flood victims got was less than $600 bucks each....priorities aye ?
