I have picked up a primary cover that has had a poor job of hole drilling done on it .
The ones I have looked at that I like have some form of mesh attached & I am wondering how the mesh is fixed to the cover .
I will need to remove quite a bit of metal to clean it up , most of the raised circular sections & some of the center part .
I saw one where the mesh was held on by an external ring fixed to the cover .
Any experience or ideas would be greatly appreciated before I start hogging out material .

Yeah, but if the threads for the original access holes are trashed the Eurotrash vented plugs are useless and likely the entire primary cover is a throwaway. Maybe someone has an idea how to make something of it. And, unless the primary is a belt drive, the chain oil would spew out the vented holes Anyway .

A photo would be helpful

Hi Shane, are you meaning mesh or perforated stainless , you could weld on some material, x4 so that you could thread it , and bolt it on , this isn't the same but I machined a tool up for rock guards on a crossram , and made the trumpet guards and there is a special way to cut the mesh to avoid pleating , basically cut out a square at 45 degrees to the mesh then round off each corner , not sure if this is any good but just an idea for you to think about , they clip in real tight onto a step , you can size them to protrude less . Or just make your external plate/flange ring and samwhich the mesh , is this for a belt drive .

I've run a fully covered belt drive for many years with no issue...but decided to slightly vent both ends of the inner cover (with center drain provision) and used s/s security mesh that i shaped and fixed with a equivalent type adhesive sealant as what Dave M has used....rock solid

Sorry I have not mastered the picture posting thing yet .
It is well beyond the screw in plugs , I was thinking JB weld or similar , but was worried that if it let go it would not end well .
Glad to hear that adhesive seems to be standing up .
Yes , belt drive . My original cover is fine , but I was hoping to give a second life to this butchered cover & maybe add a bit of bling .

You can support the JB weld with some steel/brass flat plates held by screws to the cover, but I doubt its needed. If you pick the right mesh then you can form reverse tapers on the OD so it grips better.

What I have is similar to ingermansons triumph , I will end up with 2 large holes front & rear .
Shelby , any more info on the cutting of the mesh , how does the 45deg sq help when the end result is a circle ?

Hard to explain , I expect because I liked the dome look , so it ends up a pretty rounded off square, and you have to size it to suit to height of the dome, they only go in from the back , and if taking it out you need to go through , they click in on the step and its easy to mark any bits that need trimming when I made two sets of them I made a spare which was helpful as getting all the mesh cut and fitted is better if a once only to your good ones , I have these retained by a 98 or 99 mm ceger clip .hope this helps .

For round mesh, can get die cut stainless discs, from 1/2" dia. to 12" diameter - see examples here:
