Cuba Norton Domi suport

I have written to you bearing news about Yasser and his 59 DOminator in Havana previously. His economic status is not very good. He earns about the equivalent of $70 US dollars a month working more than 8 hr days. His situation is depressing and offers little hope of improvement. Even getting money together for gasoline for his motorcycle is difficult.
A friend has offerred to hand carry a small package to him next week. I sent him a dual output coil for the DOmi, a twinmax carb sychronizer and some kickstarter parts, a new pawl, spring and plunger thanks to John Ebert.

The reason for this message to be blunt is ask for a small donation that will be sent along to provide him the same opportunity we have, to ride our motorcycles and enjoy their freedom. Nothing more than a $10 bill is asked, and anything less is enthusiastically welcomed and much appreciated. He knows absolutely NOTHING AT ALL....about this.
This is a rare window of opportunity to have a traveller carrying something doirectly to his home. I t allows us to provide a hand up to a young man who has no way to increase his economic situation and has confided to me his outlook and his sadness as a young man looking forward to his expectations in Havana.
I dont like people aksing for money myself and I would guess I am under the shadow for reaching out now.

I think this is a bit different, however. Its about helping a young motorcyclist who is fantical about biking. His is a not a well to do family, just normal good hearted working people who appreciate everything the Norton community has done and has made a huge impression on the Cuban people...... who have been told many vile things about Americans, most likely, by a communist government that controls its media.

I know some of you will find this a most welcome chance to be involved on a small scale to add to somethig wonderful in young Yasser's life when he feels cheated by all his efforts to educate himself and to work in a technical field. If we send him $50 or $75 it will be a major impact for him.

If I have hit you the wrong way with this appeal, please dont take it as any scheme to bilk anyone or to gain anything. It will be a 100% transfer. If you werent somehow already behind this project, you wouild not be even getting this. Thank you all for your past assistance. anD THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR CONSIDERATIONS.
How often can such a small donation make such a great impact in a communist controlled country? Word of this will get out. You can bet on it.

Please do not feel obligated in any way or feel this as a an unwelcome intrusion. It is not intended to seperate anyone from his hard earned motorcycle funds. But if you feel moved to make a contribution.... make it as small as you would like. This is not but a friendly sharing that will keep involvement in his motorcyle freedom alive under a repressive dictatorial regime. He will recieve 100% of all donations.
Several of you have been very gracious with Dominator technical expertise and advice in troubleshooting problems at a distance. Mike Randell sent Yasser a 1960 Norton Nomad head which is now installed on his DOminator 99 which has been repainted silver and renamed "The Silver Prince."

Yasser's summer will be spent wondering about American people how they can take a complete stranger into their hearts and enable him in ways his own people are not capable of. I think this is a special doing which no one could organize if he wanted to. I dont take any credit for it. It just happened. It takes courage to do these things especially when nations and their structures stand in your way. Peoples hearts find the cracks ....in the brick wall...and the spirit of overcoming makes its own way. Thats the most incredible thing. Its like The Field of Dreams, the movie. If you build it They will come. Thats how it has shaped up.
Thanks, all, for your part in this bold hand up to Yasser. Yasser and his family are good people. They do deserve someone's uplifitng in their life in the face of their desperations. I feel that someday this small thing will make a huge difference in ways we could never comprehend..right now.

Everyone deserves a good break. ANd it feels good to be able to trump a screwed up system that keeps its people down.

You're doing a good thing there and I'll give something.

But think about your "screwed system" type comments please.

Don't get Yasser associated with criticism of the regime in Cuba. There are people in jail right now for criticising Castro. Yasser may not have internet, but you can bet the spooks have and you can bet they do a lot of googling for references to Cuba, Fidel, etc.

I'm a Miami native, grew up with the 1st families from Cuba that brought life back to Miami and then the rough masses sent over. Shot in Everglades with Cuba Commando teams, so do have my own opinions but I merely copied Ed's text no comments of my own. Ed's in contact feedback from Cuba to have the natives view of it now. This project has been ongoing for most a decade now so they are well aware of the risks, monitoring and work arounds. I'll forward your alert just in case.

Take the bike, send it to Australia for sale, and what he gets for it will put him through Uni.
Then he can get a good job and buy another one.. Just a thought.

It doesn't cost money to go through university in Cuba. They are very well educated.

But there are no good jobs, or at least no well-paid jobs and even professionals such as doctors have difficulty buying anything.


Your idea would work in a sensible country like Australia.

They don't let them out.

Cuba was renting out doctors to Spain but didn't let them take their family, in case they didn't come back.

But the sparse diet does give Cubans a bloody lovely figure!

I saw a documentary on the Stastny brothers who fled Checkoslovakia to play for the Québec Nordiques and he was campaining to get elected to the European parliament and he said to people who complained about the cost of things back when the country was communist and now where the prices of basic goods are ore in line to what is common in the free world. Bread used to cost a few pennies and milk was about 11 cents per liter, when they would say that, he said "In concentration camps, bread and milk are free, but would you want to live there?"
