Hello, has anyone used or fitted a throttle friction cruise control ?
Any recomendations ?
I have a Mk3 and one of these would be handy (excuse the pun) for long boring straight roads.

I don't know about your MK III, but my MKII has a friction screw from the factory. I have never used it, but my 74 Honda CB750 had a similar device (actually had a little knob you could turn with your thumb) and once or twice I used that. It was really only good for highway use and flat highways at that. When starting up a hill you will lose speed and on a down hill your bike will just run away with itself. So basically its only good for a few moments while you need two hands to adjust your helmet, scratch some body part(s), or warm your right hand on the cylinder head (I wonder how many others have ever done that).
 
Planning to go from Brisbane to Philip Island for the GP, about 1750 kms, and there's some straight boring roads in between.
So as my advancing age is starting to catch up with hands and wrists I thought one of these things would be good for a wrist rest now and then.
I've seen a few on the web but never used one.

I have one on my bike and really like it. It is a lever action that you just flip/press down and it locks the throttle. Well, it doesn't lock it but puts good resistance on it. I use it for three things. I hold the throttles open a bit while I tickle it. On warm up I may hold the rpm up a tad to prevent stalling. And, I find it very useful on long runs when I get tired of holding the throttle open. Mine was on the bike when I got it and it has a wire holding it in position. It is just a clamping action and I think you can use any one you find that will have the right ID for your twister.
 
You can just substitute a thumbscrew with the same thread as the stock friction screw. Mine works quite well for long flat stretches on the highway, for setting an idle just above normal when warming up the engine--and especially for taking up all slack in the Amal slide springs when you're feeding the slides into the bores--an otherwise finicky operation on my Combat.

I use a "Throttle Rocker" paddle and set it to where I just rest my palm on it on a cruise. Around town, I slip it off and toss it in the tray of my quarter fairing. i can also easily move it from bike to bike, just slip off, slip on.
 
A "cruise control" is just the type of device that I would like to add to my MK III road cruiser. I have poked around and have found this device:

It is a bit pricey. However it seems well-built and, with the thumb release/brake release, it appears to address the major safety concerns. It also appears to be easy to manipulate (set/reset) while riding with just a thumb adjustment. The linked instructions are pretty straight-forward about the installation, though it isn't clear how well it would work with the stock Norton m/c and brake lever.

The site lists a variety of Triumphs including the Bonneville (even though they can't seem to distinguish between a motorcycle and scooter in the picture) but they don't list any Norton models - I wonder why that is? :) Does anyone have any experience with this company or this product?
 
Gday GRM450, Ive had a cruise lock on my Honda VTR for some years and love it. Its a simple devise that uses a cam setup that is a thumb operated toogle. Its adjustable to your liking. I think I purchased it from Australian Motorcycle Accessories.

Even with it on lock on cruise, its easily overrided or backed off, perfectly safe.I highly reccomend one for those long rides.
Enjoy Philip Island, its a great venue, ML loves it too!

Foxy, that looks like a Universal Vista type. Those and the Breakaway type are the ones I am interested in.
It just depends what will fit the Mk3 type throttle. ????
My missus wants one for her Monster S2R also, so I will buy 1 and see if it fits the Mk3 and if it doesn't I can still fit it to her bike. If it does I'll buy another one.

Throttle rockers, while good, still need an apendage of some discription on the throttle, (mine's not long enough)

Already has a Mikuni, good carb but still needs the throttle to be held.

I'll report on what fits.

I bought Universal Vista which is similar to Foxy's picture above. These have been around for years, very cheap, $45 but they don't have the quality of the throttlemeister. (looking at the link)
It will fit the Mk3 if I make a different piece for the bottom of the bar clamp to clear the 2 wires comming from the right switch. I've been too busy with it's other issues to do it yet. But it should work ok.

My wife has a Monster and the U-Vista won't fit it but this throttlemeister will, so thank you for that.
I will try it on the Commando and see what it's like, let you know.
Reasonable price too.
