Dunno why the wire connectors thread has been locked, but I would like to know where the crimp bullets that acadian posted about can be acquired (US please). This type:

Crimp type bullets
\

I'm going to use them for the alternator wires, which are exposed to the elements. Tape doesn't last long and heatshrink is a one time deal.

Dont forget to get the correct bullet for the size of wire you are using.

you should also check out Cycle Terminal for smaller quantity of connectors, and other good stuff. i source some of the wiring material for the Basket case rebuild here. No affiliation with this company, just a happy customer

Re; o0norton0o, comment- on the Wiring connectors thread- “I will crimp, solder, and heat shrink, because in my own experience I've had many corroded crimped connections over the years, and zero broken soldered ones. Granted that's just one data point, but it's actual experienced data, not data extrapolated from an assumption made about the industry standard.”

Notwithstanding soldering a 50-year-old wiring that has copper wires that have gone green/brown/black with age which will make it impossible to solder – the wire that has reached this colour will create an electrical resistance even if you just crim it to a connector!!

The solution –dip the exposed copper wire in liquid Jenolite rust removal for 2-3 mins then wash with water to reveal clean copper wires fit for soldering!

An alternative to clean corrosion from wire:

@LAB : Thanks for the fix.

@ all: That link has several contributors who offer solutions to the "old wire corrosion" problem.
