Gents,
I have just stripped my crank down, please to find nothing more than a bit of paste like sludge inside! The journals look good, and are standard size (I've not properly measured them yet though).
It's a 1974 MKIIA 850 and has 5/16 studs.
My question is, what best to replace the studs with?
Is it worth fitting MKIII 3/8 studs? I obviously understand these will be stronger, but won't the crank be weakened by the bigger holes?
Or are there better quality aftermarket items available from ARPmor similar?
Or should I just fit new standard items?
It's going to be approx 9.8:1, JS pistons and rods, JS stage 1 cam and I do like to give it some stick!

Mick Hemmings is doing my crank an says as long as you fit genuine Andover Norton studs or bolts you will have not problems . These are all he puts in all his engines including full race motors an he has never had a failure. My motor is PW3 cam big valve head with everything lightened large bore tuned length exhaust and full inlet an exhaust porting job but he still guarantees the standard 850 studs an nuts will hold it just fine.

Good info Toppy, thank you.
