Hi:

I've broken a new timing side crank seal trying to fit it into place. It's been supplied by RGM and seems just like the old one, but won't fit... Should I heat it a bit?

Sparkplug,
Don't heat it. The seal should be a tight fit and cos it's put in the 'wrong way round' that is spring first it can be a little beggar to start square.

Best of luck with the new one.

Just fitted one myself last week. I find them easier to get in square if you use the back end of a deep socket to drift them it. It gives you better control over it :D

Do you mean spring should be facing outwards?

What about the contact breaker seal?

Thanks for the helpful replies and sorry for the late answer. I've been away for a few days.

Fit the crankshaft seal with the garter spring side to the oil pressure = which is the timing cover gallery through which the crankshaft is fed oil from the pump, so spring side towards the outside, or facing away from the engine

The seal is there to keep the oil out of the points housing, so the contact breaker seal spring side goes toward the engine.
