Couple build questions

I am in the process of wiring the bike, and doing a few other makeovers. One thing I will be doing is clip-on bars, and I noticed with a set I purchased (I will not be using this set, to modern looking) That I could not place the bars close to the upper fork due to the black 850 gauge cases. Now seeing this Im either looking to go with 750 gauges, or build a mount and run a single gauge unit. I would like to run a speedo and tach, and Im guessing no single gauge exists. So any suggestions would be helpful!
 
I like the large tach, and the electric unit. Is it detachable so you can hide it when your showing the bike or storing it? I kinda want to keep the bike old school to some extent. (Im 27)
 
No, the speedometer stays on the bike, it is not easily removable. The tachometer is a Smiths Chronometric, pretty cool because the needle moves in steps rather than have a smooth motion. My next project will have an electronic speedo/tach combo, while I like the looks of the mechanical gauges, especially the big green dot ones, an electronic gauge will look different plus the rear wheel I am planning on using prevents me from driving the speedometer, the whole set-up will also be lighter.

Gday Vulin, I had thought about this combo for my cafe racer under construction. Would give it a bit of that classic Vincent look.

Gday Swoosh, yeah good points, if the product is as good as stated they should be fine. Classic Instruments also state that they will custom build to your requirements, all at a large cost I bet. I might look into the cost of the speedo/tach for curiosity? FOXY

THey have a whole page on their site about how you have to pay for quality. Might be cheaper to retrofit some NOS Chronometrics...
 
Mmmmm... done a bit of research and the Classic gauges are not up to the job required for that of a motorcycle! Apart from being too expensive, upwards of $900 OZ, the glass lense is too thin and vibrations are detramental to their longevity! Still like the concept of the big speedo/tach!
 
All you have to do is tighten up the ISO's, the tighter the clearance the more the needle swings to the right :mrgreen:
