I ordered a 4 piston Brembo caliper and what I got is what I'm sure is a counterfeit. I would have ordered from Mat but he was out of them. Though the picture on ebay was the real thing what I got was a garish gold color with pink brake pads. The Brembo logo is slightly different. There are more differences. I'm sending it back and hope they refund my money.

Do you have a different return procedure to us? If I ever need to return something off eBay I start a return procedure and insist I get a prepaid return ticket. We have what’s called ‘distance selling regulations’ which all sellers must abide by.

Tomorrow I will file a complaint with ebay. It seems Brembo has a real problem with fakes. It was a bait and switch. Pictured was the real thing, what I got was clearly a fake.

Did you contact Brembo with photos and ask for their comments?
It would be interesting to see the photos of the fake & the real caliber.

The local supplier here in Sydney, Australia ,that sells the real Brembo parts was showing me the little sticker/seal on the lid of their box that proves it is a real item. When the box is opened the seal changes. This it to stop fake items being put in real boxes.

Very early genuine Brembo…

Too late.

Our world is polluted with cheap junk, unfit for purpose.

Everywhere.

In fact, the last set of Ferodo Platinums I got, have a saw tooth profile on the perimeter from a poorly done laser cut. It will (and is) gnawing away at the 50yo caliper. 😡

Nearly everything made these days there will be copies or counterfeit parts produced even with the copied brand name, the Chinese are very good at this as well many other Asian/3rd world countries, as for Brembo brakes not all their brakes systems are top of the range brakes, most manufactures (bike manufactures included) will contract out to parts manufactures for the cheapest price and that is where quality over quaintly goes astray, but don't mean you get crap just some parts are made cheaper for what mass produced items are contracted for, most bike manufactures and car manufactures want the best price to keep cost down so not the top of the range parts are used.
Modern times everything is outsourced and not everything is made inhouse, every bike manufactures do it same as cars, trucks etc. etc. and they been doing it for a very long time.

But major issues arise when the counterfeit part is criminally dangerous.

And unfortunately even major name distributors are not a safe haven from this. Recently a friend who builds engines for classic racing used a big end bearing which turned out to be fake. And the bike seized and put the rider in hospital with injuries that required surgery and months to heal.

The part was supplied through a major NZ supplier who I'm sure did not know it was fake. It was priced at the normal level, supplied in what looked like a genuine package and looked correct in appearance.

After it failed with less than 3 hours use I mentioned it to a friend in Australia who immediately knew of the issue. His contact who was high up in the Asia Pacific branch of the bearing manufacturer knew of these fake bearing. They are made in China and they do not have a factory there. They thought they had chased down all the fake bearings in Australia but unfortunately 2 in a small outlet in NZ slipped through.

An even more disturbing case was prosecuted through the NZ courts some 20 years ago. There a NZ and USA aviation parts supplier had fraudulently sold fake helicopter parts complete with fake certification. In this case the persons involved at least in NZ were convicted and sentenced.

And how could anyone ever check a big end bearing for quality? All we can do is buy from a reputable place and hope for the best.

Yes. But in this case one of the top NZ distributors with 22 branches around the country and in business for decades.

The bearing is no longer available today but they thought they had chased down two in one of their branches. Turns out they were fake. I'm certain they didn't now.
