I received two switches with my 69S. One has seven terminals in a circle on the back and the other four across the center. I don't have a key for either so I am curious wich one to take to the locksmith. Your help appreciated as always.

I'll vote for 4 as I know it's not 7. Next time I'm out in the garage I'll check for sure. I was thinking it was 3 but maybe it was the fact that it's a 3 position switch. Definitely not 7 though.

parking lights, off, ignition on, ignition and headlight/tail light on All Commandos are four position switches, my guess

69-70 is a 2 position switch where later models have a 3 position switch.

And later-on (from '72) they had four position switches = [Parking lights] - [OFF] - [IGN]. - [IGN + Lights].

The switch with the four terminals is actually a pair of deuces and won't fit the hole in the side cover. The other switch (7 terminal) is three deuces and a single. It also has a rubber boot that sheilds it. Without the key, I can't tell how many position it is. There are only three wires from the harness to the switch. I'm hoping that I have the original switch as then I would have the key for the fork lock.

My '69 "S" had a 3 wire connection, on and off. Here is a pic of the back of it.

I see you are in PA, we have at least 3 - '69 "S" models in VA/NC, we should form an East coast club of the '69 "S". The others are Nelson in Charlotte, sidrilley in Madison, and I think there is someone in NJ too, I'll have to check.

You should still be able to use the four position (7 terminal) switch with your "three wire" setup, by connecting the brown/blue to terminal 1, white to terminal 2, & brown/green to terminal 3 or 4 (depending on whether you wanted the headlamp switch operated parking lights or not?) Some pattern switches appear to have different internal connections (T3 & T4?) to the original Lucas 4-position switch?

Lucas four key position,- 7 terminal switch. Note that if there are only three wires (no blue/yellow) then brown/green can be connected to ter. 4 if parking lights are not required?

Dave, Thanks, that is the switch. And,after i removed some of the excess paint from the hole, the switch does fit. Dave, You the Man. Thank you and everyone else.
Dave , you are right. It seems that we do have a fair concentration of S's in the mid Atlantic states. Maybe after we get 'em together we should get together.
