Greetings,
I am presently running a stock ignition system on my 850 and I suspect that I need a new pair of condensors.
Rather than order the stock items I thought I'd try the local auto parts store. My question is does anybody know
what the rating (microfarads) is for the stock condensors? Info appreciated thank you.

I have it in my notes that it is 0.3uf, but can't verify that. DomiRacer has replacements for a fair price, but I have no experience with them.

How about a guess ? I think a 12V battery / coil points ignition is going to have about the same value capacitor, no matter what it fits. The points are a 12V switch. 12V coils all have about the same resistance. Why would the condensor be any different ?

I run two condensors on my tractor (6V 1940 Farmall H ). The points last a lot longer.

I just installed a mod on one of my non-Norton motorcycles that uses a set of points and condenser from a GM V8. It works great. You should be able to use any condenser from any 12V auto. GM used the same points and condenser for years. I can now just go to any auto parts place, ask for a set of points and condenser for a 78 Chevy Impala and get the right parts.

As covered about any points condenser, chain saw to big V8 all have about same size contact breaker area and coil size-reluctance. But there is some variation and a real expert annal installer will trial error condensors till there is least arcing seen after dark between the contacts opening/closing. They can be bad before ya even install then and can crap out just sitting around so get a few extra and don't throw any away just d/t appearance but working fine, or you may have to dig em up again or wait to get new ones before riding your point fired Cdo.
