Well things finally look to be going forward slowly.....
The recap... A 72 Combat Roadster as per the Avatar, Which developed an oil leak at 300 miles on a Rebiuld.
An oil leak caused by a stray Crankshaft Stud Nut.
This nut was supposedly Loctited and tightened as per the rules. I couldn't see any Red stuff on it.
Anyway, damage was done, an agreement was made with P.O., and we set about to remedy the problem.
There was some welding to be done.
And I took the opportunity to do the Oil scavenge mod and Breather mod.
The old style Pistons have been replaced along with a new 4s Cam, Radiused Followers and Valves.
The damaged Cam tunnel was tidied up, as was the Follower tunnels, and another set of new bearings
and Crank bolts, gaskets etc. etc.
At .040th over, it is said to add .33 to compression...ie. 10.33-1 so I took it upon myself to remove .020th
from the tops of the pistons, just to keep compression down to a little less scary 9.75-1 ish.
I know it's not much, but it made me feel better.
I guess I am lucky to have got all the new parts supplied by P.O. from RGM, but still will cost me plenty of dollars and the last bit of good riding weather.
Stay tuned, I'm now relying on a mate to get the motor together.... more to follow...
AC.
PS... I have to add that P.O. did offer to do all repairs neccessary, at no cost, however I settled for the NEW parts and a FRIEND to do the work.
