I'm in the process of re-lacing both 19" wheels on my MkIIA Commando, and was wondering what's the max allowable axial and radial runout for each wheel?

I think a good target is .025" although some factory specs will run up to as much as .080 and higher.

Well, 0.025" is unachievable for my front wheel radial runout after about five tries. The best I've achieved is about 0.050", although I have the axial runout down to about 0.020". Does anyone know what's best: A higher radial runout with a lower axial runout, or vice versa?

Scarface out of roundness for inline-ness for any compromise required. Tires are all slightly out of round and road surfaces also give uneven rolling round-ness, so feel and behave identically normal, but out of line can wear tires more, reduce mileage and if doing traction loss leans it can bias which way is safer or easier. I put tape patches on low spots and clothes pins on hi spots to help visualize where to relieve and where to take in tension, a whole bunch over weeks till happy with almost perfection. Once the real tension begins to build a dial guage may show a small dish in rim at each nipple location. Even tuning the last bit by tapping a row of spokes and tweaking, still better watch the side guage or end up undoing somewhat, again.

I got mine to .5mm or roughly 0.02" pretty easy. Ignore the weld spot, it will never come in. I didn't work that hard at it either. Chromed steel UK made rims from Walridge. Now if you've got the disk brakes, that may make it a bit more difficult.

I think you are well in the range. As mentioned, the .025 is good to shoot for as a benchmark but your numbers are good.

Thanks for the replies. I'll stop where I'm at and have the tires mounted next week.
