I want a cool looking tread. My Norton is a weekend rider and high speed performance is not that much of an issue but I still want something that is going to handle well.

I like the look of the big Coker tires.

I like the look of ribbed on both front and back.

I want an interesting tread pattern. Any recommendations?

Ernest,

Difficult to understand where you're coming from...weekend rider could mean anything. I use my 750 Commando for weekend riding. I like fast runs on back roads. It doesn't require superbike performance at the tires, rather just good handling as you mention. Many of us are quite satisfied with Avon AM26 100/90-19 front and back or maybe 90/90-19 front. Let us know how you intend to ride - slow speed cruiser or back road burner.

Lace a 21" to the front hub and get the skinniest tire possible up front. Get a drop center 16" HD rim laced up for the rear and put a 500-16 Firestone from Coker on it, add some width to the swing arm to fit it in there, then add a jack shaft between the primary and final . Then it'll look really kool.

I've got a daily rider. The Norton is my play bike, inner city, be bop around town, take to the bike shows, I may open it up on some back roads occasionally but mainly just to be seen around town.

I like your thinking but I'm sticking with the stock rims for now.

Instead of widening the stock swingarm, how about one of those hyper-extendo "blingarm" kits?

I think that might put undue stress on the stock Isolastic system which was carefully designs with certain engineering forces in mind. :p

Handle well - don't mess with anything other than the rated parameters of 3.50 to 4.10 x 19. There are 2 brands you can rely on - Dunlop K81 and Avon AM26. If you mess with the width, i.e. Croker fat stuff, you are risking stability.

When having the choice between tyres that work and sliding down the road on my arse I choose the former and use Avon roadriders.

I use a pair of 19's TT100 Dunlops on my combat.
I think the tread pattern looks vintage enough to me.
They are made in Japan today vs Merry Ol' England like orig.'s.
After a 200 mile break ,I ride them a little aggressively and no problems.
Thes bikes were not designed w/ the isolastics to deviate much from stock w/o chasing the next problem.
If you want the coker look to get an older hard tail bike that they were intended for.
I think you may just make more problems then its worth.
If it rides crappy after the tire switch are you really going to run out and buy new tires again?
Nay, it'll sit in the garage.
Any one want to hedge my bet?
Enjoy it for what it is bro!

I haven't heard anyone mention the Avon ribbed speedmaster on front and SM on rear....I thought this setup was pretty standard. Most prefer the RoadRiders now?

Roadriders seem to be the best choice for good grip and wear combination. Norton's history was racing, racing and more racing, so it just looks odd when someone puts big tyres on them in my eyes.

Haven't used the SM ribbed front with the blocked rear for 25 years, looks period but your only contact with the road deserves better.
