anyone have any experience with the update kits commando specialties sells? I like the price and the fact that no modification is needed to the front mount to use them, i didn't find much in searching about them either way.

I think it's the same kit Norvil and grandpaul sells, correct me if I'm wrong. If your isolastic rubbers are good, you can get by with the Hemmings adjusters, keeps all your original parts, all it replaces is one front and one rear mount collar, and you can put it on either side.

All I know is I just ordered two more sets, and they've gone up $25 per set.

Stainless
Vernier adjusters
w/ booties
work with all models

Does not include mounting through-bolt hardware, and does not include mounting tube end plates. Everything else is in the kits.

I did it a couple of years ago. This is a post I did of my experience. post68622.html#p68622 I used a hoist and while I would still use it, I would drop the bike to the floor and also use a floor jack. I have noted several post in the forum which did the job with the motor in the frame, much as I did. If you take your time, it's about a 4 hour job. Commando Specialties sell a good product, and they stand behind their products with a good return policy, but instructions and support are thin for a someone like me who has little experience with motorcycle repair.

Now that I have them in, it's just loosen the bolts, put an Allan key in and adjust to your hearts content. By the way, there is a post somewhere in the last year that addresses the issue of changing (tightening) of the ISO clearance. L.A.B. made some points which helped me. May be worth a read.

I installed the Hemmings adjusters with a jack on the bottom of the motor. Well, I did have to remove the 'S' exhaust because the rear iso stud has to clear the exhaust there, but if you have the Roadster exhaust that's not an issue. I just pulled out the bolt at the front, replaced the collar on the left side, and the same at the rear, I put it on the right side. Excluding the exhaust it would take maybe an hour. They were £69 delivered.

The grub screws (set screws) could be a bit larger and some have drilled and tapped larger ones into them.

DogT, If I do it again, unless the bike is completely apart, I think I will go with the Hemmings.

My bike is down to bare frame right now, so hopefully i'll have less hassle! Thanks for the link

I installed a vernier retrofit kit (Not from CS) and now 1 month and 3000 miles later, the rubber looks like it's cracking already. WTF?

Where did you get your parts from?

I noticed mine showing the exact same thing after installation but before final adjustment.
They had been in place just over a month.
Commando Specialties was the vendor.
I get pissed spending that kind of money on a new part and have it break down so quickly and the last thing I want to do is dismantle the components to replace a couple of rubber weather caps that should not be breaking down so in the first place.
I guess the original mfg. was able to save a few cents apiece using cheap quality rubber.
But.....maybe not so good for reputation/quality review and customer satisfaction.

To be fair, many rubber bits today degrade swiftly. I hate it though

Very true, with the customer usually paying a premium for sub-par quality.
Not all of them , but too many IMHO.

FYi...I read a post a day or two ago that the Hemmings adjuster kit may no longer be available as his machinist bloke is retiring. I had just ordered a read set two weeks ago from Mick...maybe I got the last one?
